I comp by end date. When I've entered all the ones from the date I'm doing, I pop in to regulars so I can enter any daily comps. I work down the list everyday - otherwise I would miss out on entering them. If you comp by end date and the comp was on the main board you'd surely only pick them up when it was nearly over? - just my opinion though. On a sunday or saturday, I pop in to weekly comps and enter those and then I work down the monthlys when I can. I find the regulars board very helpful. xxStarted comping 01.01.2010. I'm not really up to speed with all this, but if it's about the use of the different boards, then here is my view.
I find it easiest to work through the main competition board, so would prefer all competitions to be posted there, and left there. The only thing I find useful on the regulars board is the 'index' of current competitions which appears on the first page - I would suggest that this index is retained for each type of regular competition, and each link takes you to the competition listing which is kept on the main competition board. That way, each morning I can go to eg the daily index and work my way through them in an orderly way.
In this way, the regular boards (daily/ weekly/monthly) need only be one or two posts long and whoever is responsbile for updating it continues to do so. When someone posts a comp that is recurring to the main board, they simply pm the guardian of the relevant regulars board, who creates a link in the contents which links back to the page on the main board.
This would help me to enter the regular comps, which I often miss.
I guess there may be a question of 'bumping' competitions where a daily/ weekly answer is required, but I don't have an issue with that, as I use the green tick service anyway which shows which threads I've seen, plus I generally order the main comps page using the red 'most recent' button.
I hope that helps!0 -
I totally agree that comp shouldnt be moved to the regular board. I would also like to ask that people put (log in / register on the forum)2012 Challenge win £2012 £973/2012 ..20 in 2012 14/20

Is there anyone that comps by end date and doesn't use the regulars threads (ie. daily, weekly and monthly) to find the regular comps? If so, how do you come across them and when in relation to when they're posted?
If a comp's posted on the main board and has *daily* in the title and has questions daily, e.g. Glamour, I subscribe to it and get to enter it that way. If it's a daily, but no daily questions, I'll still subscribe to it but if no-one bumps it, I'll enter it just the once as I won't rememberSECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:

I posted and pm'd about this idea, if we actually were getting the chance to discuss how we'd like our compers board to run. Only ideas and questions get lost really quickly in the comps discussion thread. I can understand that chitchat on a comp thread which results in bumps as well is annoying, so I suggested this earlier, and would be very grateful if this could be considered...FAO Glad -
just to get back on topic of any possible changes to the comps forum. Is there any way that we could get a Compers Chat sub board added where we could just have general and varied comps gossip threads in. We could then ask questions and hold any chit chat when theres a good comp running on various threads in there, debates, help how do I do type threads, etc....
Whereas at the moment I agree that lots of topics get lost in this thread or in the Inn, iyswim. Also I can see that its hard to keep up with this thread, esp when theres a hot topic or a thread gets merged into it.
Just thought I would throw the idea into the melting pot...My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

I have just come back to comping again after a year off and was wondering why there seemed a lot less comps on the main board! I thought it was because of the recession! lol!
I also pretty much only ever use the main board, just never seem to get the time to comp via the regular boards too.
I thought the system worked really well as it stood, if I had extra time I would venture onto the regular boards and do the dailies etc.
It seems such a shame that long term compers who post so many competitions are leaving/stopping posting. I for one am very grateful for all their efforts.
I vote for comps being posted to the main board and a link posted to regulars.0 -
I never go to the Regular Board so personally I would prefer all comps to be posted as single entries to the main board with an indication in the title if daily/weekly/monthly.2008 - £421, 2009 - £100, 2010 - £5,000, 2011 - £2,260, 2012 - £1,755, 2013 - £1,225, 2014 - £2,260, 2015 - £135, 2016 - £330, 2017 - £2,129, 2018 - £650, 2023 - £1250
THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO POSTS0 -
Was thinking about this overnight, and if people are going to agree that certain threads whatever they may be HAVE to go to regulars, then could they be ALL automatically have to be posted on the main board FIRST with a heading showing that it is going to be a REGULAR then a link sent to dailies, and then the original thread edited or written either by the OP or a BG so that it is still there, and not removed until GO, but reads something like....' Hi, this thread has been moved to the regular thread, as it will have new answers every day. Please follow this link' so that there is still a link on the main board, people will know an end date, can comp either way and will only have to head to the regs board if they really want to.
I don't know how easy that would be, and I'm sure that would have problems too, but it may help. I know the main board would still remain long, which I think Glad thinks is a bit of a problem, but as long as you comp by 'thread title' or 'thread start time' it doesn't matter how big the board is does it?
I posted this earlier today on the comps discussion thread. I think it links with what most other people have said so far.0 -
I meant to say, if all comps were on the main board and then only the regular linked threads remained it would put pressure on for them to be updated, I'm generally ok with this pressure for the daily thread, but what about when 1 week+ long holidays come around?
Would there be any griping that the thread hadn't been updated for that amount of time?
Edited to add: This would matter more on the daily thread than any of the others because obviously it means 7 entries+ missed, where as on the weekly thread it's would only be 1 or 2 entries and on monthlies it shouldn't matter too much at all as there's all month to enter and update.0 -
i would like all comps on the main board with links to the daily/weekly/monthly where relevant0
