Disgusted at ebay/paypal/buyer...

I asked TWICE, at different POs, before Christmas when posting packages similar to the £50 example I gave above. In both cases I was clearly told I could claim up to the £41 limit if I could prove value and posting.
So you got the same answer at two different post offices and Mobile48 found this stated in black and white on the Royal Mail's site which I think counts as 'sorting it out'.
It's just a matter of not allowing ignorant RM staff to deprive you of what is rightfully yours.
I'd suggest to anyone concerned that they print out the relevant section from the RM site and taking it with them when making a claim. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Ideas of forensically tracing serial numbers are as fanciful as they are illegal!
Looking what is stored on your own PC to find out the serial number is not fanciful or illegal. This needs to be done if the OP does not have it so they can report the item lost. As for tracing I was not referencing anything illegal but in checking the link it does little more than finds out the serial number via itunes:
http://www.answerbag.co.uk/q_view/2140563.
The other links relay on the fact that someone has logged onto your accounts and checking your own accounts is fine. I think this is only possible for the ipod touch.
Hence it looks like you cannot track it but you can find out the serial number and report it. It can be tracked but not by you.0 -
The Post Office is just an agent for Royal Mail, I find most of them lacking in knowledge about the postal system. If you are serious about online selling you must be proactive and tell the PO what service you require. I find they ask lots of useless questions. All the information you require is on the RM website and in the many printed brochures available from the post office.0

I found the following statement on Royal Mail Web Site that seems totally clear the other way:
For lost or damaged items that have an intrinsic value, with evidence of posting with Royal Mail (such as a certificate of posting) and evidence of value (such as an invoice or receipt) customers will be entitled to a postage refund plus compensation for actual loss up to the value of the item, or 100 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step, whichever is the lowest;
However this does not mean you will get it as stated previously.
This still doesn't answer the question if your item is worth over £41.0 -
Oh, and I asked at the PO today. The cashier said yes you can get refund if your item is worth over £41 but then her colleague overheard and said she thought that you would get nothing! They did say they'd have to find out but leaves me none the wiser.0

I do not follow you it states:
...up to the value of the item, or 100 x 1st class stamps at the first weight step, whichever is the lowest
In other words
...up to the value of the item, or £41 whichever is the lowest
To me it states you will get £41 if the value of the item is more - am I missing something?0 -
Hi guys,
Happy New Year etc etc!
What can I do about this:
1) Buyer bought an ipod for £99, and paid £2 for NORMAL first class delivery. As is their perogative. It isn't their responsibility to ensure appropriate postage is used. That is the sellers problem and shouldn't have been offered as an option if it wasn't sufficient.
2) I paid the extra to get it sent FIRST CLASS recorded. So? It is your responsibility to ensure the appropriate postage. See above.
3) I have a receipt/proof of postage and tracking number. This is a matter to take up with Royal Mail.
4) Item has not arrived (posted 16th Dec) This is a matter to take up with Royal Mail.
5) Buyer has filed a complaint. As they are entitled to do.
6) Payapl have removed £101 from my account. As they are entitled to do.
7) I have a negative balance on my paypal account. Provide the correct proof from the correct postage method and Paypal will return your account to normal. Alternatively, clear the negative balance yourself.
My question is this: where do I stand re. compensation??? Clearly, this item is lost. I choose to send it recorded, even though the buyer did not want it. See reply to point one above. Any potential claim is with Royal Mail.
I am worried that I am going to lose out here. Probably, because you failed to fulfill your responsibility to protect yourself properly as the seller.
The tracking number states that the item is 'still in the delivery network'. This is a matter to take up with Royal Mail.
Even though I shelled out the extra, paid for recorded etc, it seems I am going to get shafted
Again, I'm afraid, your responsibility... therefore your potential loss.
I have phoned ebay, used the resol;ution centre etc, but nothing has happened so far. It has nothing to do with ebay. My paypal balance is in the negative, It has nothing to do with Paypal I have not got the item A matter to take up with Royal Mail, and it seems that I am going to lose the difference between what the buyer paid, and what I received for the item (only to have the money taken away again). Because you failed to fulfill your responsibility to protect yourself properly as the seller.
HOW CAN A SELLER WHO CHOOSES TO SEND RECORDED BE PENALISED FOR A MISSING ITEM????? Because you failed to fulfill your responsibility to protect yourself properly as the seller.

None of this has anything to do with Ebay, Paypal or the Buyer. Royal Mail have apparently failed to fulfill their contract with you so the matter must be taken up with them.
You have failed to adequately protect yourself and meet your seller responsibilities.
Sorry, but that comes down to you.
Sean
My wife is a DFW... I guess that means I'm along for the ride! :j

Where does it say 'You will get up to £41 if your item is worth more than £41'? It says to me that if your item is worth £41 you will get £41. If it is worth less then you will get that amount.0 -

You are right I think that is the intention.
I was reading it in the context of this thread which gives it the different meaning.

So can you list an item, give postage for 1st class and special delivery, and stipulate that 1st class is only if the selling price is under £41, and Special if it goes over?Debt at 1/1/11 £7,049.75, now £6,682.12 at 9/3/110
