Royal Mail won't pay the £41 either out as the item wasn't sent by the correct method

Where has anyone been scammed here?!

I wasn't commenting on whether or not it was a scam.

I was commenting on your rather ridiculous suggestion that taking positive action is, as you put it, 'OTT'.

I don't think that is correct. All mail sent in this country is insured for up to 100 times the current cost of a 1st class stamp providing you have proof of postage (unless the contents are on the excluded list).

I have been told this by my post office too. If your item is worth over £41 and goes missing they won't pay anything out as you sent it by the incorrect service.

So, when making the claim, state that the item was worth £40.

  • First class recorded is only insured up to £41 so you will not be able to make a claim for compensation.
If you don't want to use Paypal again don't worry about being in negative balance,if you still need paypal you will need to clear your negative balance.

But you have to submit your ebay item page and paypal refund proof so this won't work as this will show what the value was.

Even if there is a signature available, it doesn't mean it's the buyers signature and they are trying to scam the OP.

It could be the posties signature or it could be a neighbours signature.

  • But I was totally unaware the £41 was the benchmark figure. This is stupid, as the cost of a first class stamp changes. Nobody told me this when I posted the item...

The only thing that is ridiculous is suggesting the OP go to the Police, when you don't even know that the buyer is a scammer! And do you really think the Police will be interested and give the OP a crime number??
