If Vodafone have details of the SIM, don't they know who it is registered to?

Sorry didnt make it clear, Apple told Vodaphone it is up to Apple to block the handset, and would not disclose to vodaphone the sim details.

Going to make a complaint to the met police, to try and get something more done, if not come tuesday will lodge a small claims.

Then you mean the IMEI number. The SIM card is issued by the network (e.g. Vodafone).

Make sure you sent a "letter before claim" to Apple first, giving them 14 days to reply.

Thats the one lol, Guy lawrence passed it onto a exec, who wasnt happy that they wouldnt disclose this information, even though it was meant to be a locked vodaphone they exchanged it with.

She also said that Vodaphone wasnt happy with their policies on not checking and details to ensure that the correct person was being dealt with, ie as in the contract holder.

It seems that Vodafone are on your side more than Apple are. However, if the replacement is SIM-locked to Vodafone, then Vodafone could do a little bit more to identify the buyer who has been knowingly handling your stolen goods, given that only a Vodafone SIM can be used in it and the phone identifies itself to the Vodafone network through its IMEI number. If Vodafone can block an IMEI, then they can equally identify the IMEI number of a phone used by one of their SIM cards.

Dont need to trace it, we know where it is..... its in Apple's posession, last known place was there Regent Street Store

To be honest I suspect Apple ship faulty units out of the retail store on a daily or weekly basis. You know where it was exchanged on a set date, after that it could be anywhere.

    Well had email from Apple:
"Thank you for your voicemail. I will be contacting the Police today to inform them of who to liaise with in Apple to get a response on this issue.

    Kind regards,
    Margaret ******
    Executive Relations EMEA
    Apple Sales International"

She also telephoned to say i had email, and also told me that they will only deal with the police and not divulge any information to me.

    Great Customer Service......................NOT

Their bound by the data protection act (which can be a right pain). Its got nothing to do with customer service.

They dont have to give personal details, they can say wether they found the phone or replacing it or not, thats nothing to do with Data Protection.

    So it is Customer Service....

And they didnt care about customer service when they allowed the person to exchange the details without asking for ID or proof of purchase.
