We have been in a similar situation a few years ago thanks to tax credid fiasco. Our bank charges were disgraceful. We cancelled all direct debits and now pay everything over the phone by debit card. Not sure if this helps i sold some scrap bits of gold jewellery broken very fine chain broken earings (3 little hoops) broken thin bracelet, 3 cheapo thin gold rings,a broken clasp for a chain that was tiny, it really was scraps i was going to throw them. Thanks to a friends advice i took them to a local jeweller and got £150 i thought i might get £30 at the most, so raid jewellry box for gold junk, don't sell anything that you would miss though. Thinking of you and you will get through this. If i lived near enough i could help more. Hugs x

Your OH needs to try and get an advance at work for the fuel or ind someone he can lift share with. Is it a big enough company to have HR? My company has helped people like this several times (I am the HR Manager so I know rather than it being public knowledge) and we take it back over three months rather than plunge you back into problems.

Santander are a nightmare, the online info isnt current, and the muppets on the phone can't help. They did something similar to me - despite there being plenty of cash in my (business) savings account at the time so believe me I understand how easily it can happen.

I hope you get something sorted quickly - especially about the fuel as getting your OH to work is critical.

Laurenjs88 a few of us have sent you private messages, but I'm not sure if you have read them. I sent you one myself last night.
Forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know, but up there ^^ at the right hand side, where it says 'Welcome laurenjs88, you last visited at ....', you should be able to see some private messages? If you click on that link it will take you to all your unread messages.

Do you have any oil Lauren?

Here is a cheap and easy recipe for tortilla flatbreads - the top ingredients are for double the amount mentioned in the instructions.

12 small wraps or 8 medium sized ones
    12oz/340g plain flour
    14 tbsp water/180ml
    1/2tsp salt
    2 tbsp olive oil

For me, the most worthwhile thing to make (cost, quality and time-wise) is wheat tortilla style flatbreads. These are the ones you pay £1+ for six pieces in the supermarket, packed with hydrogenated fats. This is one of the four-ingredient breads: 6oz plain flour, 7tbsp water, 1tsp salt, and 1tbsp olive oil. Mix and then knead for five minutes until it's soft and springy. Cover with a clean damp cloth to stop it drying out and leave it for half an hour (or more - you can make it the day before you want to eat it if you like and put it in the fridge). Divide in to six, roll each piece in to a ball, then flatten out and roll in to a circle about 6 inches wide. Heat a frying pan (with a little oil if you like) and when it's quite hot cook the flatbreads, about a minute each side until lightly coloured. They'll puff and bubble just like the ones in the shops. Once cooked you can eat them warm, grill them quickly before you eat them, or freeze for use later. They freeze so well I tend to make double every time so I can have some ready to use in minutes (they're so thin you can put them straight from the freezer in to a warm oven or under the grill).

I took the original recipe from someone in OS (sorry but I can't remember who) and I never add the salt :o

    morning,

I will update here whilst i am replying to all your lovely PM's so please dont think im rude, its just my inbox is very full :)

My OH & I are very grateful to everyone who has replied to this and everyone's kind offers of help.

we emptied the sealed pot when our baby was taken into hospital for petrol and parking, Ive played a treasure hunt game with my 3yr old this morning and we've uncoverd 53p in the house which is better than nothing. although she is being rather possesive over it now as its her treasure suppoesdly!

OH's work wont give him an advance, the ceo in the politest way is a complete moron. The company is quite small and the wages woman is a complete brown noser plus she doesnt like OH after he corrected her about an employment/wage issue that she'd cocked up. Apparently her many years of experience means she is now vaccinated against human error...

We are generally money savvy, collect tesco clubcard points etc... We are getting rid of my car as soon as DLA is sorted as OH will then be staying at home with me to make sure i get to all my appointments and stop setting the kitchen on fire. lol

we've choosen to bank with lloyds so we can use there save the change scheme, hopefully this will bulid us up an emergancy fund for future 7 i've decided to make a box of emergancy food, tins & sachets etc.. and put it in the shed so were not tempted to dig into it.

I also feel compelled to set up a charity or soemthing to help people who get into this situation and cant recieve help elsewhere or don't know where to turn.

The cheap family meals website is brilliant and we will definatly be using that as a future guide!

There is a small church where we live and i am going to walk up there this afternoon with the girls, but i will wait untill the serivce is over. we could all do with some fresh air and the children can go to the park.

We finished off the scotch pancakes for breakfast and baby had her jar of banana pudding. not entierly sure what to do them for lunch was thinking maybe some chicken nuggests and rice.

God help you love, my heart really goes out to you, I've been in a similar situation myself.

It happens far easier than you think, especially when illness strikes, all thoughts of routine and the mundane like money scatter from your mind.

You have recieved some helpful advice and I'm sure god has been busy with all the prayers said for you.

I hope you manage to get something to help you. Keep your chin up love this too shall pass.

Oh, just thought - on the tortilla recipe I use sunflower oil rather than olive oil and it tastes fine :)

The catholic church in my hometown has funds to help people, you dont have to be catholic or go to church to qualify. Its worth a try
