Chaps this is a 60 reg car, ie, nearly brand new, can it be worn valve seals??, the thing isn't yet run in. It must be very simple or dead serious.

    mileage OP please??

Agreed not worn but I have seen plenty damaged on assembly, or a faulty seal.
I was assuming the glow plugs would have been tested when it went back to the dealers?

Its the fact that it only happens when its left for a while!

Should I call Ford direct as each time I take it to a garage they talk to me as if I'm stupid and making these issues up.

Both garages 'apparently' gave it a thorough going over, do I believe them? Nope. They'll of sat in it, revved it, plugged it into the computer and left it at that.

I know some people will think it's nothing major, but I don't want it to get worse and end up running it into the ground.
This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.

Its not major but it should not be doing it for its age and mileage. Is it actually using any oil?
I would go straight to the top forget the dealers and go to Ford directly.

I would say it's used some oil but not enough to warrant topping it up just yet.

Going to call them first thing and see what they say.

    2 points;

    1) ask the garage to check the glow plugs, 2 min job

    2) take it to them and ask them to leave it to cool. Go back when cold and ask what them to start it while you are there, and ask what they think of the smoke??3

    3) the car is well inside waranty, don't be fobbed off ;)

Duff glow plugs would only make the car harder to start

As a diesel engine combusts it's fuel under pressure, no spark is needed. I don't think this has anything to do with glow plugs at all

No it won't, it will cause the engine to smoke heavily untill the engine has warmed a little.

I've known cars with 4 duff glow plugs start perfectly, the only clue is the smoke. ;);)

    I'll get the glowplugs checked.

What exactly do they need to do, take them out and test them? Just so I know, as I know full well all they'll do is start it and say glowplugs are fine lol. See I can even predict how crap they are!

glow plugs on modern cars also have an after burn period when the engine has started, they will continue to glow for a bit to assist in burning off diesel until the cylinder is up to temperature then switch off.
if they don't glow then it takes a bit longer for the cylinder to heat up meaning the diesel hasn't properly burnt off.

this would usually cause black smoke, but certainly worth a check.
