At this age it has to be something stupid like dead glowplugs. Take it back and ask for a check.

If it isn't that,k it could be very, very serious.

And that is serious, brand new cars don't smoke other than as explained.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

This is the video I took the day after I got it back from the garage, one of it's better days but then it hadn't been stood as long as usual. Need to do as suggested and get a proper video, as phone doesn't pick it up very well, especially as it thins out after a few secs.

    www. youtube. com/watch?v=NvZqGRQfv_c

Usually it starts out really thick blue, then thins out and stops after about 20 secs in total. Every now and then you'll see a massive cloud floating down the road. The longer it's left on the drive the bigger the cloud usually.

I'll get the glowplugs checked, what should my next step be if they turn around and say they're fine also?

oh and only really ever use tesco fuel for points.

Try filling it with non - supermarket fuel, see if it improves things.

Oil burning just on first start-up could be caused by valve stem oil seals, the oil left in the head seeping past them overnight. There is an easy test for this, which may point to it. Take the car on a run and find a long decline where it is safe, whilst declining take your foot off the accelerator whilst still in gear. The longer the decline the better. After a while accelerate and watch your rear view mirror for any signs of blue smoke.

If your valve stem oil seals are comprised the added vacuum from the closed throttle, will replicate the overnight leakage. I would be surprised on such a low mileage car but I have known it!
  • Ford diesels prefer stuff like BP, Shell etc. Avoid Asda fuel at all costs.

    That youTube clip didnt work.

    EDIT:

    Is this the clip?

    Thanks again for the replies.

Yeah that's the clip, I put spaces at the beginning as a member told me off a bit back for posting full links?

I know of a long hill so going to give that test a go soon :-)

Having watched the clip I don't think you have too much to worry about, no blue smoke would be preferable but it does not look excessive! Probably is a little oil seeping past the valve stem seals.

Chaps this is a 60 reg car, ie, nearly brand new, can it be worn valve seals??, the thing isn't yet run in. It must be very simple or dead serious.

    mileage OP please??

Edit - and the last month or two is when it's started to hesitate when driving first off, after about 10 mins it's fine.
