Blue smoke on start up - Ford Mondeo

And what was the cause/solution to that? Was coolant merely topped up?
Return pipe hanging off the coolant resevoir, would of been from when it was built. They didn't notice it on the PDI either. AA bloke put the pipe on and filled it to the brim with water, once he'd gone i took it straight to ford to have it drained and filled with coolant. That really is a disgrace, I would try to find the name and address of the MD of Ford UK and contact him/her.
Good idea. Other than that I have no idea what to do now, other than put up with it.
It's so god damn frustrating.
They're all nice and polite on the phone, 'yes we'll find the problem and rectify it don't you worry' - then the second the garage say they've checked it and found nothing wrong it all changes, the niceness and politeness then disappears, and they try to talk down to you and pretty much tell you you're stupid. This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -

I would agree if the smoke was any other colour. However for the smoke to be blue it has to be burning oil. I dont get any blue smoke on my 155k diesel so there shouldnt be any on a 5k motor!
The valve stem seals sounds like a good theory - have you tried the test a previous poster mentioned? Go down a hill, back off the accelerator for a bit, then accelerate and check for blue smoke in your mirror!0 -
I have, but the cars that big that I didn't really see much, saw some smoke but couldn't tell what colour it was. Could probably do with someone following me to see properly. This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0

It is worth it, as it (was) an £18.5k car when we got it in September, after 8 days it had no coolant, after 2 months it starts bellowing smoke out the exhaust, after 4 months it starts running like a nail in the morn.
Ok, how did you find out it had no coolant??, ie, did it overheat/boil over, get cooked.? Did it get driven far when dry??,
I dont think anyone would normally bother to check the coolant level immediately on such a low mileage car. If it was caught on the temp guage them fine but anything else and it does open up other possibilities, ie, burnt valve seals, gasket issues, distortion.
A very small an mount of oil in 1 or 2 cylinders can cause a massive amount of smoke on start up and can cause rough running, even a leak not significant enough to show during normal running when that's been burnt off.
You obviously have to be very carefull not to bypass Ford for waranty reasons, but has said previously harangueing someone high up at Ford must now be a favourite plan. The possibility of it being posted on some of the motoring forums the video and the resultant attention may just be of concern to them??I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

You need an independent view, take car to a derv expert, they will confirm car is not right, then dealer will have to sort, I was going to reject my I30 after garage could not resolve blue smoke after 5 attempts but they did confirm car not right, my solictor says indepedent report holds alot of weight, especially if it goes to court.
Good luck & keep us updated, but dont give up.0 -
The coolant one is strange.. I was waiting for my partner while she went to pick the little one up from school, I was sat in the car bored and thought i'd have a nosey in the engine bay as I hadn't looked before, thats when i saw the coolant allover the engine bay. How on earth there was no steam or overheating i have absolutely no idea, the cars mileage at that time was just over 500, so god knows how far we'd been driving it with barely any coolant. and if i had not randomly had a look it would never of got checked.
I sent a mahoooosive email off to the MD yesterday, got a phone call today from the MD's PA, she has referred it to someone higher up in Ford customer care. Have to wait and see what they say..
I did say to them that I'd get a specialist to look at it and diagnose it, they told me it would make no difference to them and they would not take notice of it. Is this another fob off then? This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -
No, it's the standard response, ie, not to acept anything, but bellieve me if an idependant assesor can determine the issue they WILL take notice, Good luckI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
