Blue smoke on start up - Ford Mondeo

I know nothing about diesel engines, but I don't see how "unburnt fuel in the exhaust" can result in oil smoke on first start up - the exhaust will be entirely cold, and won't be capable of igniting unburnt fuel until it warms up.
Exactly, smoke can only be produced in the combustion chamber, (from cold). It has to be oil or diesel, the same????, being incompletely burnt in the engine.
IE, Still over fuelling, or too cold, for the glow plugs to fully combust, or a leak into the compression side.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

and to think these are supposed to be the highest of the high? and they can't even figure that out lol
the last garage it went to have refused to let ford send out a field engineer to look at the car?? so now it looks as though i reluctantly have to take it to the one which i never wanted to go back to ever again, due to appaulling attitude/service. :mad:Strider590 wrote: »This is why I won't touch dealerships, they replace qualified and experienced mechanics, with low paid, laptop wielding monkeys.......
yep, i seriously wish i didnt have to take it to a dealer. 'if the computer doesn't come up with anything we can't investigate it further'This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -
Hi guys.. thought i'd update.
2 out of the 3 garages refused to let ford send a field engineer out, so ended up being the one further afield.
it was supposed to go in last thursday but they forgot to arrange a hire car so was booked for today instead.
they had it overnight last night, field engineer saw the blue smoke this morning and spent all morning looking at it, he's diagnosed it as being a leaking valve stem seal.
they're having a like for like hire car delivered to me on monday and taking mine away to have the engine stripped and repaired, should have it back by wednesday/thursday.
the dealer principal has been fantastic aswell, so very happy so far. just frustrating that it's taken this long (since nov) for anyone to actually find the fault.
still quite shocking though.. 6 month old car having it's engine stripped to bits :eek:This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -
Glad its getting sorted for you! I reckoned valve stem oil seals in post #15;)0

First off ,glad you have at last got a diagnosis, and secondly that someone is going to do something about it.

But seriously what's even more shocking is the treatment you've received in trying to get it fixed :mad:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

another update, it's also leaking on cylinders 3 and 4 so it's having a short engine change (bottom end i'm guessing). not bad for a car that supposedly had nothing wrong with it eh?
the guy said on friday that it'd be at least another week if not longer as he'd only just ordered the parts.
oh and the dealership is Sandicliffe Ford. This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0
