Good Morning all!
I feel a lot more positive today, really hoping that good things will happen this week!
Lexi Im really sorry to hear that you don't like your new job. Is there no way that you could move back to the other office? I used to work somewhere where nobody would speak to me all day and it was awful.0 -
Hi everyone,
Hmm, just found out a friend from my old place of work went for one of the jobs I applied for and got it. I feel terrible because I should be pleased because she's a friend, but I'm she already had a job, started 3 years after me so less experience/lower grade and...argh. I wasn't even shortlisted even thought I spent ages making sure I gave examples matching every one of their criteria in their person and job spec. It was a good application!
It was also a really decent job and close to home! I really wanted it because then it wouldn't mean upping sticks and moving halfway across the world
It's hard not to feel like crap when your desperate for work, stuck in this job searching hell, and being rejected so often when someone else has a job, applies for another almost quite casually and then gets it first try...0 -
katkim I know exactly how you feel, but just try to look at it positively. It is very hard but you will feel better about it tomorrow. Try to be happy for your friend even if your upset for yourself.0

Thanks livermum - I've only just found out and the overwhelming feeling is disappointment with myself.
I'm actually meeting her for dinner tonight, I'm not going to mention that I also applied for it to avoid any embarassment and awkwardness and when she asks about my job hunt I'm just going to focus on other stories. I'm sure she'll be thrilled when (if?!) I get a new job0 -
Sorry to hear that Katkim
it obviously wasn't meant to be and your destined to be somewhere else. Hope tonight won't be too awkward for you.
Just got back from my appointment at the school and it couldn't have gone any better. I just need to get an updated CRB from the local council as mine is 4 years old. I'm already CRB checked though so I can start next week, just can't work alone with children until my new CRB is through. The school is lovely and I saw a couple of staff I already know which is lovely. They even seemed quite keen to be able to keep there voluntary while I'm studying in September. I know it's not paid work but it will get me out the house and give me vital experienceSaved: £1566.53/ £20000 -
lexi, so sorry to hear that. That's exactly how I felt about my temp job, I ended up in tears on a night out with a couple of people from the job because I hated it so much. I guess the other one is gone now?
I have a splitting headache and just want to get back into bed, where has my positivity gone this time around?Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

Unfortunately yes it's goneI've already been in tears this morning. Luckily I'm only on three days a week til the end of the month, and I am off today. I feel so awful because all the time I was out of work I said I would take anything, and now I have a job I just feel so ungrateful.
There are literally no jobs to apply for here, and there's been nothing for weeks. I'm getting a list of addresses together today and I am going to send my CV off this afternoon. I need to get out of there asap. I just keep thinking though it's taken 5 months to find this, I really can't face another 5 months stuck in this job.
Sorry for moaning, I know everyone is probably reading this thinking they would do anything for a job, and I would probably be thinking the same.0 -
I really have no motivation today. I can't bear to look at the various job websites and feel the disappointment at the total lack of vacancies. I am going to job club today so I am saving my job hunting for while I am there. Job club is optional for me, but I need to go to get me out of the house and feel like I am doing something constructive. And you never know when I get there and start searching I might get a wee surprise and find a good number to apply for........or not
Im a right moan but I am so fed up with this.'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More

Be strong Drea!!Hi everyone,
It's hard not to feel like crap when your desperate for work, stuck in this job searching hell, and being rejected so often when someone else has a job, applies for another almost quite casually and then gets it first try...
Hah, I know the feeling! Just keep reminding yourself that you will match the right job soon - if you're doing all the right things with the application then perhaps the company wasn't a good fit to you?Getting into TV is tough, trust me. I work in TV. A few website I've found are useful. However these do charge. Productionbase.co.uk is a site where you do a profile and search for jobs, however it costs a lot - annual fee is £120. TV Teams - which you can follow on Facebook costs much less, and only pay when you see a job you could do.
The Unit List on Facebook is another one, but rarely has graduate job.
When did you finish studying TV? Have you had any experience in it at all? It sucks now that the regulations are in place so you can't do any unpaid work unless part of education, well it's good so you don't get exploited! If you want any advice about working in TV contact me.
Thanks! I finished in 2007... really doesn't feel that long ago
I worked for a TV company from 2006-2008 ish - I was editing adverts and promos and I was a second camera op for about 8 weeks of that, the rest of the time I redid their website for them because they found out it was an old skill of mine so I stayed with them through my last year of uni and beyond for a little while.
I stopped doing business with them because it took 6 months for my last pay cheque to go through without bouncing because they had cashflow problems. It was too long to wait to be paid.
The position I went for on Monday in TV isn't camera or editing, but it's a massive company (it's not the BBC) and the role sounds really interesting and exciting.0 -
Lexilex, i'm not thinking your moaning I can sympathise. I know how hard it is when you are in a job you hate, whether it's money or not sometimes it just isn't the right place to be.
I've pretty much not gone back to the job I was doing for that reason, has been one of the hardest decisions i've ever made and although i'm not earning now I am happier and keeping positive. That may drain away in time but I find that focusing on whats best for you is so important whether it means leaving a job or taking a lower paid one.
I agree with everyone on loosing positivity in job hunting.
I'm still feeling quite positive at the moment but i'm expecting that feeling to lessen the longer i'm out of work as that was the case 2 years ago when I was job hunting then.
What did help me to get a job last time was being positive and upbeat in the interview, no matter how you're feeling inside. I had to put such an effort in appearing that way even though I wasn't really feeling it but it did allow me to get a job. Hoping it will be different this time and I can keep that outlook
My interview went ok yesterday. It was a long way to go so I may loose out because of the distance and I don't currently have the exact skillset they are looking for so i'm not really expecting to get it but it was a good interview experience and went well otherwise. I do find it interesting to learn what different companies do from interviews and researching for jobs so it was worthwhile in that respect, learning all this should help in the creative industry i'm trying to keep / get work in. I'm currently self-employed with no work on but this company was started from scratch 20 years ago and going to the interview did inspire me too see that I can look at other options and that you can make lots of things happen yourself rather than relying on the say-so of others.
Thanks for the good wishes messages they definitely help when you feel unsure of yourself
On another note i'm trying to look at how the jobs i'm applying for can fit into my current situation as it does make a big difference to what u'll apply to and being happy in the job.
Although i'm not as busy as i'd like to be i'm filling some of my time learning to drive. I've come to it quite late, being 25 nowbut it seems like the right time for me to learn as i've got some savings to do this and it can only make me more employable in the longer term
Next lessons not until friday though so need to try and keep busy till then.
On a positive note, my brother got his first ever job this week after being out of work for nearly 2 years after finishing uni.
