Im waiting to hear back from a temp job down the road which would at least bring some money in for a bit.
Im off to my first interview tommorow and brickin it!
Im having to travel out of the area for this job (another temp vacancy).
There are some jobs in the nearest city to me but after enquiring with Jobcentre they are unwilling to pay anything towards travel costs. A train fare would account for nearly a quarter of my jobseekers for the week. So i am having to be selective when looking for any jobs in that area as i simply cant afford the travel to a job im unlikely to get.
if i dont find something in the next few weeks im going to have to broaden my job types.
Im already looking at 10 hour a week cleaning jobs as this and care work seem to be the biggest employment sectors in our area.
Care work is definitely the biggest industry advertising around hereJust because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -

I know exactly how you feel, I put in an application for voluntary work today. Hope your appointment goes well.'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More

Is it possible that this business of there being less jobs being around at the moment might be because of the tax year ending? The tax year ends at the end of March which means companies budgets restart at the start of April. So there might be more jobs around next month (we can only hope and pray).0

Stew you have really cheered me up! I was wondering why it seems so sparse and this makes sense!
Thank You Stew0 -
Count me in to the ranks of the unemployed.
I've been unemployed for three weeks officially, and have been looking for work since the beginning of November last year.
I'm getting so fed up with the situation! I knew I was being made redundant last November so I've been on the hunt every day since then.
I've signed up to all the agencies, have made a public CV on reed and cv-library, have created a linked-in profile and linked up with some colleagues, sent letters of interest to local companies... and still nothing permanent in the field I want to work in (Marketing).
I've probably applied to 30-40 positions, I've had 13 interviews (!) from various applications and I'm waiting on 3-4 companies to let me know if I've managed to get an interview. 3 of the interviews I've had were from getting through to the second round, but then I got knocked back for various reasons.
I've had NO negative feedback apart from one person, who said I seemed a bit nervous and that might be bad for doing presentations. Everyone else has had absolutely nothing critical to add even when I ask. Why the hell can't I just be the one they pick?!
7 of the interviews were for the same company, for 3 different positions, I was really clear about why I'd gone for 2 of them, and then the following week after they gave the position to an internal candidate they're developing, they asked me to come back for another position. I have to wait until week and a half before my 8th interview with them...
One position they're asking me to wait another week for the results of the first round (it was two weeks ago already!!), then they'll have a second round and possibly start in a month's time. The other I'm waiting for results for is in the field that I studied (television) but I'm not as confident with that as I am with the others.
I've managed to get some good contacts at local agencies (a friend is the manager of one, and the other I've visited and emailed at least once a week since I met her last November) and they've put me through for two of the jobs I'm waiting on.
I've had a tiny bit of luck with having a public CV - had about 7 different agencies/companies contact me for positions but a couple were those awful "Give me £3,000 and we'll train you in your field!" type things, and a couple of others wanted me to do sales which I don't want to do anymore...
The upside is that an agency actually signed me up to sort their website out - it's not many hours but it keeps me technically employed I suppose?
Having the CV public got it headhunted for the television job though, so fingers crossed they knew what they were doing when they got me an interview... let's see if they liked me enough in person!
Do any of you have any tips on approaching companies for invisible opportunities?? I'm getting so impatient!0 -
Getting into TV is tough, trust me. I work in TV. A few website I've found are useful. However these do charge. Productionbase.co.uk is a site where you do a profile and search for jobs, however it costs a lot - annual fee is £120. TV Teams - which you can follow on Facebook costs much less, and only pay when you see a job you could do.
The Unit List on Facebook is another one, but rarely has graduate job.
When did you finish studying TV? Have you had any experience in it at all? It sucks now that the regulations are in place so you can't do any unpaid work unless part of education, well it's good so you don't get exploited! If you want any advice about working in TV contact me.0 -
I started work yesterday.
I spent the morning in the other office working with people I already knew which was nice.
The afternoon was absolutely awful. I went back to the office I will be based there, and just sat there. I had absolutely nothing to do. The manager kept coming in and looking at me just sat there, but not giving me anything to do. I just had to answer the phone which hardly rang.
I absolutely hated it. I hated to whole environment, I hated the job, and although there are only a few staff members, there were a few that were funny with me.
I am back tomorrow and dreading it. I didn't sleep at all last night for worrying, and I am so upset this morning.
I would rather be skint than this upset and worried.

Thank you. I've sent off to do some voluntary Admin work at an equestrian centre as well who work with disabled children giving them riding lessons. Did try and volunteer for brownies but I emailed the woman twice and never heard back from her!Is it possible that this business of there being less jobs being around at the moment might be because of the tax year ending? I didn't think of that either so you could be right. I hope you are although the thought of going into yet another month without a job is very depressingI started work yesterday.

Oh Lexi I'm so sorry to hear that!!! I really hope it was a one off and today will be better.
I know exactly how you feel. I left a job several years ago as they were making people redundant and went to work in another office on the same business estate. I literally sat there all day doing nothing and wasn't even spoken to by anyone. I was given a introduction document to read which took all of 10 mins and that was it! As it was a temping position I never went back the next day. I actually ended up back in my old job on more through a temping agency for several more months as it was the only way they could have me back.Saved: £1566.53/ £20000
