Hi everyone.
Just got back from the jobcentre and from next week I'm on weekly signings
Even the advisor couldn't find anything for me to apply for this week, it's so depressing.0 -

Hah, I know the feeling! Just keep reminding yourself that you will match the right job soon - if you're doing all the right things with the application then perhaps the company wasn't a good fit to you?
Thanks! I finished in 2007... really doesn't feel that long ago
I worked for a TV company from 2006-2008 ish - I was editing adverts and promos and I was a second camera op for about 8 weeks of that, the rest of the time I redid their website for them because they found out it was an old skill of mine so I stayed with them through my last year of uni and beyond for a little while.
I stopped doing business with them because it took 6 months for my last pay cheque to go through without bouncing because they had cashflow problems. It was too long to wait to be paid.
The position I went for on Monday in TV isn't camera or editing, but it's a massive company (it's not the BBC) and the role sounds really interesting and exciting.
Yeah getting editor or camera jobs usually takes a while! Even if you have the skills. Need to take more junior roles. If you want to be a camera op it's good to have your own equipment, but that means spending thousands of pounds! If you want to get into editing, well edit assistants, or running in post production houses (it's basically a glorified waiter!). But if you're desperate to work in TV it's what's necessary.
I'm due to sign on today, just got the post as well and next week is my 3 month interview!! Can't believe it's been 3 months, with only 5 days worked in between. Well lets hope the rushes for the show I'm on come in before then and I can start working for a few weeks doing that0 -
Had an interview with recruiter yesterday, really nice and is putting me foward for something.
Interview critique: was charming but overly chatty and not clear enough about who I am and what I can do. Seeing as I had struggled with getting the personality across previously I suppose it is a step forward, and I really know now where I am falling down. Not sure how to fix it.
Have an interview with another recruiter this afternoon, who made me laugh on the phone so I am really looking forward to it, plus someone else in his office called about three weeks work starting immediately. That would be awesome as I have a date looming: April 8th. On that date I would have been out of a full time job for a year.
I am now stressing because I told the temp guy that I didn't know my day rate making me a rubbish freelancer, why did that pop out of my mouth?! Will see him later so I hope I get the chance to crawl out of that!
Very sorry to hear about down days, it's heartbreaking isn't it. I wish the sun would come out. Remember, you never know what's round the corner, stay expectant and confident! Think about looking back on that spell of unemployment and what you might have wished you did while you had the time, and do it. For me, it's mainly cleaning and window gardening0 -
Unfortunately yes it's gone
I've already been in tears this morning. Luckily I'm only on three days a week til the end of the month, and I am off today. I feel so awful because all the time I was out of work I said I would take anything, and now I have a job I just feel so ungrateful.
There are literally no jobs to apply for here, and there's been nothing for weeks. I'm getting a list of addresses together today and I am going to send my CV off this afternoon. I need to get out of there asap. I just keep thinking though it's taken 5 months to find this, I really can't face another 5 months stuck in this job.
Sorry for moaning, I know everyone is probably reading this thinking they would do anything for a job, and I would probably be thinking the same.
Nobody thinks that! A job isn't worth being upset over, try look for something new but if it really is that bad don't feel guilty over leaving! I would say to give it more of a chance though, my last long term job was awful for the first few days until people came out of their shells and now I wish I was still there!Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
I think part of my problem is I am still clinging onto the interview I went for a couple weeks ago. It was the second interview and I really thought it went well. Still nothing though, when I got in touch they sent an email to let me know they had to reschedule some of the other interviews for the end of last week. I wonder if I should call again, I worry about annoying them though!Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0

I think I would call them, I can't imagine a scenario where they say 'we were about to give her the job, but she phoned twice'.
Are they generally friendly people?0 -
On a (hopefully) positive note, the heritage centre I enquired about volunteering with has e mailed me to ask for 2 references. I know its not paid work but I am really excited about hopefully being able to volunteer with them. It ties in with the OU history degree I am studying for and should help me get my foot on the ladder career wise in this field for when I complete my degree. And you never know it may lead on to a paid position if one comes up. And apart from anything else it will get me out of the house and help me feel as though I am part of the real world.'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More

Yeah they were all really nice, I guess we have to understand that it isn't always their top priority whereas all we want is an answer asap!twinkle1981 wrote: »On a (hopefully) positive note, the heritage centre I enquired about volunteering with has e mailed me to ask for 2 references.
