Hi Littlestar, my work is specialised, so I don't think the agency would be much help (unless you're in the same field as me!)
But, friends who have made the leap have recommended some others which are more general and worth looking at - I'll PM you.
Thanks Steph! I'm not sure whether it's something I'm going for 100% as I know it won't be easy, but it's something to look into.0 -
Thanks for the PM Katkim, definitely useful info that I really appreciate!
Just had a call, first face to face interview on Thursday so I feel a little more perky now :-)OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -
Just love it when that happens. Waiting and applying for jobs and 2 potential ones come along at once! (Without putting any effort in)
I got a call from a production company asking me to work for a few days, got my name off someone I've previously worked with. It's not confirmed yet, I've just sent my CV to them, but fingers crossed! And then my brother forwarded me another potential job for 1 day in mid march. Today's a good day, got lots of housework done, done some exercise ( amazing for me), and got some work on the horizon.
Woop woop, it's been 2 months since my last job, well actually I had 2 days since then, but 2 months since I went on JSA!0 -
It's a new day, it's a new month and the sun is shining. Going to try and stay a bit more positive after yesterday. I'm now of the attitude that if I'm not getting job interviews then the job obviously wasn't meant to be.
Sending out positive thoughts to everyone :T

Nice sentiment - new day, new month etc.
I'm going to try to take that on board, after all who knows what will happen this month eh?
Jobs have been v. thin on the ground & I haven't found any to apply for for about two weeks now which simply isn't good enough.
I can't abide agencies - the ones I have contacted just never call you back once they have a CV, & if you send a CV because you've spotted a job, still no contact, despite follow up emails. Maybe I've just been unlucky?
I have been lucky enough to pick up 12 hrs at a weekend job, but there is no chance of that becoming more, so the search for a 'proper' job that will pay the mortgage goes on. I hate hate hate it.
Sorry to bring you all down.
On the plus side, a friend I was going through all this with has just got herself a job, which is most excellent & I'm chuffed to bits for her. I just want it to be my turn now!!!:sad:0 -
Really down today, need to call a recruiter but don't want to call when feeling so low!
Wondering whether to nag my contact about the job I interviewed for last week, shall I push them for an answer? They said the decision was to be made yesterday unless another manager got involved, so there could be a reason why I haven't been told yet...0 -
Morning all,
I've got an appointment at a Recruitment Agency tomorrow for a vacancy that I saw.
The vacancy is only tempory at the moment, "but might lead to perminant for the right candidate" well you never know
The company is pretty local at the moment, but are moving to the next town which isn't that far, but about as far as I'd want to travel IYSWIM
OH used to work in this town and we were okay then as far as petrol costs are concerned, which is my main worry
I have Mortgage Insurance and can take a tempory job for 6 months, so I'll check this out at the appointment tomorrow.
One thing about Recruitment Agencies is that you can ask questions about the job/company that you could never ask at an interview
Apart from that, I managed to apply for about 3 last week, so you never know.
Next time I sign on, I'll be over 6 month unemployed:eek: and I apparently move onto a new section, anyone know what that involves? I've only ever been unemployed for 3 weeks before

Good luck everyone with interviews today.
I need advice.
As you know I was offered the role of events organiser on Friday. I'm yet to get a start date but if I remember correctly I'm sure mid-march was mentioned. This is a 25 hour a week job on NMW and a 6 month contract. However, events is something I would love to get in to, and without past experience, probably never would be able to. This to me is really good opportunity.
A few weeks ago I had an interview at a company I have worked at for the past five summmers whilst in education. The role is in the office. I just send them a spec letter and they invited me in for an interview. Turns out it is cover for maternity, and is mostly credit control. I came out out the interview with a totally scrambled brain, thinking I wouldn't be able to do the job.
They have just rang me asking me to meet up on Friday and come up with something. She doesn't go on maternity until July, but they want me in at least part time before that.
I am so confused. The office job sounds so dull, but i've been told it is extremely likely it will lead to something long term, and the money will probably much more. This 6 month job is 6 months, no chance of anything longer because it is funded. In theory I could do both and then quite the other in July.
Advice...please!!!0 -

I'd normally think that's great that you have 2 jobs to choose between but does sound like a tricky dilemma.
if events is what you'd like to do I'd be tempted to go for that one even if it's only 6 months, 6 months experience in a sector you want to work in is better than no experience.
I think that if you can get away with doing both then go for it. At least one is longer so you will still be getting money and could be looking for other events jobs to start later in the year, that option is better than you being in this same situation of unemployed again in 6 months.
Can you maybe call the events job and see if you can find out when you'd start and the day's you'd be working before Friday? At least then you can tell the other company when you're free to work part time.
Good luck with whichever option you go forSaved: £1566.53/ £20000 -
Hi Lexilex,
First of all well done for getting yourself into this situation.
I'm a boring/safe kind of person so personally i'd probably decide on the job that might go on for longer. I'd have to consider the stability over the job I really want, especially with the job market the way it is.
However, you may be a braver person than I am and I certainly wouldn't want my advice to stop you from going for your dream job.
Good luck with your decision.0
