I have been called for an interview on Friday that I'm now practically hyperventilating about :embarasse I'm happy and so very scared at the same time, I want to hide... what happened to my confidence? Gah!!
Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.0 -
I had an interview today, it was a weird one though...First I was given another application form to fill out then I was called into interview. That all went really well, he seemed impressed with my skills and seemed to really like that im a volunteer etc he asked if I had anything I had to rush away for and I said no, ok he says give me 5 mins and I will put you through to second round. So im sat their thinking great im getting second interview. He came back about 10 mins later and said ok they are ready for you I will take you through
This was a pannel interview and again it went really well with one exception one of the pannel members seemed really negative about my volunteering which was very surprising (it wasnt so much what was said but how it was said iyswim) asking how I "could possibly complete training with my volunteering commitments?"..I said I could speak to the manager and see if I can make up the hours the following week, or possibly swap shifts with another volunteer which is allowed. she then asked " Do you really expect us to allow you time off to complete their training?" I said I would always try to work with them to find a solution that would not inconvenience them or leave them short staffed and again suggested maybe swapping a shift with collegue. She then said "I cant see how you are going to cope with all various training and having a family" I said I was sucessful in completing a full time college course acchieved high grades and never once handed in an assigment late or asked for extra time while looking after my children at a much younger age than they are now, that I have good organisational skills and can prioritise my workload to ensure I do not let anyone esp myself down.
I dont know what to make of it, is she just a b*tch? or was this a stress test of some sort to see how I would cope? to be honest I dont even want the job long term it would be just to see me through untill I can find something else, its only in a restaraunt job and to be quite frank I would find their 'training' easy and not challenging (ive done restaraunt work before).
Ok im off to find some chocolate cake!!
Seems a bit weird, what was the role?0 -

Grrr, I can't get started this week. My mother works in a school and is off this week. She won't just leave me to get on with things, she mithers about anything and anything, or thinks it would be good to get out the house to help her food shopping (!) and as a result I've done much less this week and what I have done I'm negative about (e.g applying for a minimum wage job that should not be minimum wage but having to do an application form, a long handwritten letter AND a CV). It started with the job centre woman lecturing me about applying for every job she thinks is OK, and not believing me when I said they hadn't posted me details of the first 3 job searches they did. She just made me feel about 2 inches tall.
I'm only on week 2 of unemployment but already I'm going crazy... I also have reverse culture shock I guess as I've just spent 8 months volunteering abroad. I've applied for 12 jobs, had no responses. I'm sure this is normal currently.
On top of all that, I remember before I went away when I was stressed my eczema on my shins would get worse and I'd grit my teeth, causing headaches. All this cleared up when I went abroad (where I was happy and free and ignoring UK reality!!!). Now I'm back it's worse than ever, my shins bleed and I'm constantly unwittingly gritting or biting my teeth, causing epic headaches by mid morning (therefore putting me off wanting to do internet job searches!) If anyone has any advice on that it would be welcome :-(OU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -

Days gone by it used to be an informal chat and a try out!
My best mate when for an interview for a job in a bookmakers a couple of weeks ago and she was interviewed by 5 people and some of the questions she was asked were so personal she refused to answer, they basically said to her we can ask what we want because you need us more than we need you.
Needless to say she didn't get the job nor did she want it after that!0 -

Hi, It sounds like a stress test to me, seems to be popular now-a-days  I wish they would just say what they mean as well, but there you go.
Sort of delibrately putting you on the spot and see how you cope.
Sounds as if you gave all the right answers to me, rather than someone who might say "No idea how I'd manage that lot"
Edited to add, maybe its to check whether you are likely to burst into tears when you get shouted at in the restaurant ????0 -
Sounds like a stress-test to me too. I don't think it's too odd, since you might be dealing with difficult customers with restaurant work. When I was a student, I use to waitress and it was quite stressful sometimes, especially when it got really busy and customers wanted everything immediately. Saying that, a panel and a real grilling does seem a bit over the top! Sounds like you handled it well though. Well done!0
