Just got back from my interview and it horrible - lots of technical questions that I flondered around for answers to. I knew this might be the case since I don't really work in that area. It was very embarassing. I know 100% that I haven't got it.

    :(

I feel very crappy. I don't want to switch on my phone or check my email because I know a rejection is going to be there and I'm feeling fragile!

...Hope everyone else had better interviews yesterday/today.

Gives examples of different CV formats. This is what I used the other day and have done mine as a performance CV. It looks SO much better than my old one. (In all fairness my old one was awful, I'd used the same format since I left school in 2002 and it was all wrong as I'd never been shown how to do one properly )

I'm sorry your interview didn't go well, katkim. Just try to take it as a learning experience and draw any positives you can from it in that way... and keep your chin up ;)

Out of my mind. Back in five minutes.
  • Hi everyone,
I wondered if anyone may have had the same problem as me and could give me some advice please.

I have just been to the jobcentre to sign on and the advisor I saw was in a hurry I think, they just printed off the first cleaning job they saw.

The problem is it says "You must have previous experience of house cleaning". As it's cleaning in Private households and the only cleaning I have done is my own housework

It also says I should have two references and I should think they would have to be from people I have done cleaning for.

I would have to ring them and It' a bit embarassing as I'm not sure what to say as I don't seem to fit the bill, has anyone any ideas of what I should say?

Sorry if this seems a silly question.:)

    Thanks in advance.

Hi, its not a silly question at all, we're all in the same boat, and its down right horrible :(

I'd say, if you want to comply with the Jobcentre rules to apply for the vacancy, I would go along the lines of "jobcentre employment advisor ;) suggested I apply for this vacancy"

The employment advisor is made up of course, but saves you an embarresment, looks like it was their idea that you apply rather than yours. ;):)

If the company asks experience, you could say about having an high standard of cleanliness in your own home etc.

If they really do want someone with previous experience, will at least you can say you've applied next time you go to the JC. (I've gone for two cleaning job, without experience, one in a care home and another for Molly Maid, didn't get either)

With regards to the reference, I wouldn't think its necessarily people who you have cleaned for. I'd be happy to submit a "trustworthy" reference from previous employer/workmate etc.

I wanted to mention that anyone can book a free appointment with Next Step, even if you're not getting JSA. My experience has been excellent with them. They can help you with the big question of "what should I do with my career?" to CV help, education info, etc.

Sorry to hear that, I blew an interview as well, and it wasn't even on technical issues :o It was for cleaning in private houses, they asked me to tell them about myself.

I said "I'm Linda and I was made redundant from xxxx due to council cuts" - yeah and ?!!!!!!!

I was even thinking at the time "For heavens sake, Linda, say more SAY MORE" :D

Anyway, a kindly person on here said something along the lines of "If you really see it as mistakes you made, then try to see it as a positive for next time" :T

Its flippin horrible, I know, but *fingers crossed* I went for an interview yesterday and I can say I honestly did do better. I am aware that it might not have been enough :o but I know I did my best.

Thanks Linda and Fruitloops, I'm just been kicking myself and I needed a pick me up :)

Not meaning to be negative, but I just hope I have another interview to go to soon! Nothing new posted on the job front today. Fingers crossed that something appears soon. We just need the one, right?

Nearlyuseless, I would ring them up too and say that the job centre advisor suggested this job for you and if they had the time for a brief chat about what they're looking for. Good luck.

Thanks very much for the advice Linda32, it is horrible in this boat isn't it, but nice to know that there are sites like this to keep us all going.:)

And after all that I just rang them and they said that they wanted someone with at least 2 years experience in a cleaning job. When I said about the advisor she did ask about what jobs I had done before but still said no. Thanks again.:)
