That's another day over and no new jobs to apply for. I've emailed several nurseries just to see if they have anything going.

EDIT: Just heard back from one of them, They have a couple of people going on maternity leave soon so may have 6 month contracts available which would suit me fine

Towards the end of last week two recruitment agencies put me forward for two roles to be interviewed for. I've not heard anything back from them today... I'm going to chase this up tomorrow. There's one role in particular that I'm VERY interested in (a very interesting company!) and nails my salary expections just nicely.

No jobs to apply for today. Well, I say there was nothing but the jobs advertised were to far away and I don't have a car, more to the point, I don't drive :(

Speaking of not being able to drive, I was in the middle of taking driving lessons a few months ago but had to stop do to temp opportunities coming up. I'd love to resume my lessons, I have 20 or so hours left to take but I think I'll need to pay for extra lessons since it's been a while since I've been out. Since I don't have any extra money at all whatsoever, driving isn't really an option for me at the moment and I'm so sad, I was doing really well :( I wish I'd got my licence sooner because I can't proceed with a particular application without it! *cries*

On top of that, I'm close to finishing my degree with the OU, in order for me to resume my studies I'd have to earn more in order to pay for the extra expense.

I hope a full time permenant job comes up soon, I'm not expecting the greatest/unrealistic salary but enough for me to complete my lessons and degree :(

I'm sorry for the whinge.... I'm a little disappointed I can persue these things for the time being, but what can I do eh?
  • A rock and a hard place for me today. I've got a chance to interview for what would be pretty close to my dream job...but (there's always a but, isn't there?) it is only until the end of March.

Under normal circumstances, I'd not hesitate to jump at the chance. However, because the job would end on 31 March, assuming I'd need to go back on JSA and HB after that, I'd go back onto HB at the new rates . As it stands now, my rent is about £30 less a month than what I've been granted on HB (the maximum for where I live for the type of flat I have). I'll then be £50 - 60 or so less per month under the new rules.

There's no guarantee that this job would be extended - in fact, it is highly unlikely due to funding issues there.

I'm so torn. I want to try for this job, but I fear that if I don't find something else straight after it, I won't be able to afford to live for more than a couple of months after it ends, at the most. Considering that I've only managed to find one temporary job in the past year, it is quite possible that I may end up on benefits again for a few months or more after the assignment.

I've called the council, and I'm correct on the info above - even the worker there thought it was highly unfair. I want off of benefits, but this is encouraging me to stay on them!
  • I've been offered an interview later this week! There's also one in a few weeks for which I'd have to travel to Bristol. They're not the ones I'm really, really hoping for interviews for, but they are jobs, and that's a good thing. It's a step in the right direction and even if I'm not successful, it'll be good interview practice, which I think I need :)

Hope everyone is having a great day and being productive :j

Hi starryshell, congrats on your interview and I'm sorry to read about your dilemma :(

I'm not sure what to advise and some of the much more knowledgeable posters will be along soon to offer some input... but personally I would try to look at the long term, which you seem to be doing and it does sound a very difficult situation. Like I said, I'm sure someone else here will offer some concise advice but I wanted to say I hope it works out for you and keep your chin up as best you can.

I love this topic, it's so great to be able to talk to people that understand how I feel. Everyone around me just keep telling me I have to be patient... I've been patient for 4 months, I've ran out of patience!

Glad I'm not the only one who found nothing to apply for yesterday. So far today is not looking too good either, unless I want to be a rigger technician or web designer :rotfl:

I feel much happier today. I woke up this morning to a message on Twitter from someone telling me to send my CV as there are jobs going where they work. I'm so grateful that others are thinking of me.

Good luck to anyone with interviews today. We need another success story please :)
  • Hi there, i've been lurking for a while now, but thought i'd join in. I've been out of work since 17th Jan, exactly 10 years to the date i started, i only worked part time and ended up handing in my notice as the new employers were a nightmare. I keep looking for jobs, have only applied for 1 up to now, i do keep looking on totaljobs, gumtree and local paper, without any luck.

Can anyone help me out with a cv template site, as i've never had a cv before (never needed 1), and don't know where to start.
  • REALLY glad I emailed those nurseries yesterday now, had a second reply saying they have a position coming up very soon on a part time basis. That will take my applications up to 9 now. Now I just need to start getting interviews lined up!!

Revamped my CV the other day and it looks so much better. Hopefully new Cv, new job!! :)

Hi, I've just had a quick google, as I'm sure you have, but only found sites which you have to pay for. Not great given our money situation :o

Anyway, I'm sure the Jobcentre will be able to help or put you onto companies (who get funding for this sort of things) so that its free to you.

Nothing new available for me today either :( I try to put my worries to the back of my mind, easier said than done, I know.

If you Google CV template and look at the images section of Google, you can see examples of layouts :)

Also, do you have Microsoft Word on your computer? It has a CV & Resume part in the new document section where you can select different templates. If you don't, I could send you some examples if you like? :)
