Looks like my quest for a new job is over. One offer in the post & another company is also considering making me an offer:beer:.

I now am creating a list of tasks to do before I start work and also need to decide which job to go for if I have a choice. It will be a tough decision because they are both great.

Thank you everyone for your help and comments over the last few months. It was very bleak at the beginning and your support was really helpful. It was also comforting to know people were in the same position. I also had the occasional rant and just writing down my feelings on this forum helped

I have learnt a lot about myself, and also about interview technique which will help me in my new job. I have also discovered that my old job was not fulfilling or challenging and although I will miss the people I have known for a long time, I am really looking forward to knowing & working with new people. I have also rediscovered a love of work. Absolutely no regrets, redundancy has been a good for me. It really does not matter that it will be a large pay cut, the salary is still decent and job satisfaction togther with life balance is more important for me than salary

The time off was also wonderful, I have enjoyed being unrestricted by time, being my own boss, doing some training, and spending time with the family. I think health wise redundancy has been really beneficial and has probably added years to my life. It will be a massive change when I go back to work

Good luck to everyone. I know it can be really hard at times. Getting job offers is also down to luck, there was a job early in my job hunting that I was pipped by an internal candidate.

Good luck to anyone who is naturally unconfident, quiet, shy, prone to negativity. I share all these traits but became a good actor. It took a while but I got a result.

To anyone who is joining the job market after spending years being employed by the same employer, I was 20 odd years at the same place. To land a job offer, I required interview technique and lots of practise

Finally all the best for those of you who are not getting interviews or have financial worries or are graduates seeking their first job. I really hope that you land a job soon. It is tough out there and I hope you are getting the necessary support from friends and family.

    Morizot

Congratulations on the job offer  and thanks for the kind words of support.

Hope you have a successful and enjoyable future in your new employment
  • Congratulations on the new job Morizot and glad to hear that your redundancy turned out to be a positive thing for you; sometimes being jolted out of your rut can be a good thing even if it's traumatic at the time.
    Whatever

Perfect day, my other offer has materialised and my daughter passed her driving test this afternoon

I had a glass of champagne yesterday to celebrate the first offer, looks like I will be opening another bottle tonight.

    happy, happy, happy
  • Finally some positive news.

Got the 12 week Internship at Reed so will at least get some experience.
  • That is good news Smidster, I hope it has the desired effect on your CV.

...and congratulations again Morizot and to your daughter too.
    Whatever
  • I had a second appointment at the Jobcentre today with a personal advisor to try and get help getting back into work. I seem to get on quite well with the advisor as I would say we are a similar age. I think she also likes me because all I hear when I'm there is people saying why they can't do any work- where as I think I am now capable of work so I set up the appointments to see her myself and I said I am happy to do any type of work. Anyway, she said a close friend of hers is the manager of one of the local big supermarkets and they are currently recruiting. She gave me an application form to fill out and she said she will personally give it to him tonight when she sees him. She also said that she is going to do her best to persuade him to give me a guaranteed interview and she said she will either find out the interview questions and let me know what they are or she will tell him to go easy on me in the interview and give me lots of prompts. As a Jobcentre employee, I'm not really sure whether she is supposed to be doing this for me, but god am I grateful.
Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man

  • Grr had first rejection from my 3 interviews this week. I don't understand why because the interview could not have gone better, I gave good clear answers to the questions and never hesitated for a second. Apparently I got to the final two but the other applicant had a 'quality' I didn't (they didn't say what :P ) here's waiting for the other two outcomes...

ahh that's a shame....would have been helpful if they'd been more specific?

good luck with the other two. i'm waiting to hear from one....i don't like the waiting and not knowing!
