I am jobless from the 30th Sept.. was supposed to have an interview last Thurs but it's been postponed til the 29th. Was wallowing in self pity all weekend as I had not heard from anywhere else, but today I've received an invite to an assessment day this Friday! It's seems like a really interesting job that I could definitely progress in, so I'm now revising like crazy!

Glad you're enjoying your work hello2007, just think how good it'll feel when you see that hard earned cash in your account!

Good luck to everyone else starting jobs, going for interviews or applying for jobs x

I am also jobless as of Sept 30th!! Woke up this morning and my first thought was - i only have 3 weeks to go :(

Applied for a contract job and will find out if get interview on Weds. Also, applied for another job today, which sounded very interesting. Waiting outome of interview I had last week (will find out end of week if get second interview) So we will see what happens with these...

On holiday for the next 2 weeks, not doing anthing - just feel like
Practising being unemployed!!! It also means I only physically have 5 working days left at the place I have worked for 7 years, with the same people. When the office closes on the 30th it is going to be emotional

    Hi all

I'm absolutely gutted as I looked through about 600 spam emails this morning, I found was an email inviting me an interview... but it was for last Wednesday!!! I could cry. I don't know whether to contact them and explain what happened, or just suck it up and stop thinking about it.
    :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I would contact them, than at least you will know you have tried to recover the situation. What a bummer!

I feel better than yesterday but still full of cold. I am sure the interviewers will be impressed this afternoon by a sneezy, husky, coughy candidate. The agency rang me yesterday to check if I had done my preparation (I hadn't done much as I felt too poorly to concentrate).

Looking forward to a bath and a hot sweet drink when I get back:)

Good luck morizot. I hope you're feeling better soon.

So last week I thought there was light at the end of the tunnnel. I was told I would be contacted later in the week about a sales job in a leisure centre, after we had a brief 5 minute chat. I also was to have a telephone interview at HSBC.

After chasing her up regarding the sales job on friday, she said she'd contact me on monday for an interview. This morning I get an email saying that the position has been filled.

The telephone interview didn't go down well, as there was a beeping noise every 10seconds (literally). After telling the assessor who was rather 'snobbish', she rang my house phone but it was still as bad. She argued it was my signal, and she said my answers were fine, and I knew it was 50/50 whether I would get through to the next stage. It was so irritating listening to a beep every 10 seconds however when I'm trying to construct my answers.

I'm disappointed about both jobs really. I know I'd be really good at both jobs. Everyone says how good I am at communicating and how I've got the gift of the gab etc. I just don't seem to get past the first stages really. I've had my CV checked over and my cover letter etc, I'm just starting to get down now, as I hate been stuck in hardly working.
I've been trying to remain upbeat, but I feel I've hit a brick wall now, and I just wish someone would give me a chance.

Went to the interview, had real problems parking, felt poorly, sat down to the test and found myself enjoying it. I also enjoyed the interview afterwards
  • Had an interview yesterday and today, both went very well and were similar questions (mainly about customers etc so was repeating my answers from the day before!) Hoping for a positive outcome, only downside is yesterdays interview was conducted by the asst. manager whereas all other candidates were seen by the actual manager, so the manager won't have met me when he's deciding who to hire :S

afternoon all...can i join this thread please? i had my first job interview in years today...i was very nervous beforehand but it seemed to go ok...i don't think i could have done any better than i did. it's just the waiting now to see if i've been lucky!

morizot congratulations on your offer, is it something you want? annoying about the parking..you don't need that stress before an interview!

hi everynamestaken...keep going, you'll get there eventually! i think the jobs market has completely changed, so many applicants per job now! something will come up, don't lose heart x

Looks like my quest for a new job is over. One offer in the post & another company is also considering making me an offer:beer:.

I now am creating a list of tasks to do before I start work and also need to decide which job to go for if I have a choice. It will be a tough decision because they are both great.

Thank you everyone for your help and comments over the last few months. It was very bleak at the beginning and your support was really helpful. It was also comforting to know people were in the same position. I also had the occasional rant and just writing down my feelings on this forum helped

I have learnt a lot about myself, and also about interview technique which will help me in my new job. I have also discovered that my old job was not fulfilling or challenging and although I will miss the people I have known for a long time, I am really looking forward to knowing & working with new people. I have also rediscovered a love of work. Absolutely no regrets, redundancy has been a good for me. It really does not matter that it will be a large pay cut, the salary is still decent and job satisfaction togther with life balance is more important for me than salary

The time off was also wonderful, I have enjoyed being unrestricted by time, being my own boss, doing some training, and spending time with the family. I think health wise redundancy has been really beneficial and has probably added years to my life. It will be a massive change when I go back to work

Good luck to everyone. I know it can be really hard at times. Getting job offers is also down to luck, there was a job early in my job hunting that I was pipped by an internal candidate.

Good luck to anyone who is naturally unconfident, quiet, shy, prone to negativity. I share all these traits but became a good actor. It took a while but I got a result.

To anyone who is joining the job market after spending years being employed by the same employer, I was 20 odd years at the same place. To land a job offer, I required interview technique and lots of practise

Finally all the best for those of you who are not getting interviews or have financial worries or are graduates seeking their first job. I really hope that you land a job soon. It is tough out there and I hope you are getting the necessary support from friends and family.
