Hey can I am join? I have been looking for a job for two months, I just have left uni with a 2:1 in Computer Science degree and finding it really hard to find work even retail work
Congratulations on the 2:1 in computer science!
I think you will really struggle to get a first job in IT in a blue chip company, due to offshoring, but wish you luck. I haven't seen a new onshore starter in our Financial Services IT department for at least 8 years. It is a great pity because I would like to see some onshore young faces0 -
Just found out loads more redundancies at my old company. Rats, that means loads more potential competitors looking for the same jobs as I am:mad:
At least I have already started my job hunt
Still am getting interviews but no job offers, despite lots of coaching in interview techniques. It is getting hard to remain positive and to maintain high self esteem.
Oh well, still loving my time off0 -
Don't know if this will be of any use to anyone but this week the 'Fish4Jobs' website is doing a roadshow in cities around England.

Following on from my previous post on sat...I had some more training yesterday with the mental health charity i volunteer for. The trainer asked about this other voluntary job i applied for and i said i haven't heard any thing back. He said he would chase it up for me because he thinks that i have a good chance of getting it. They phoned me up this morning and i've got an interview on weds
The voluntary job is just an admin assistant job, but its in a mental health centre for a psychological wellbeing practitioner and it said on the job description that you will help with doing triage and risk assessments etc. Its for 1 day a week for 6 months so its quite a commitment, but i'm hoping that once i have done that they will take me on as a trainee psychological wellbeing practitioner as the government has a recruitment drive of these every year.
Good luck for the week guys.Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0 -
just called the JC and she said to let them know next time i sign on, just noticed in the green booklet you get that at the back of it it says to fill in the info if strting a full time job of 16 hours or more a week so the JC obviously class 16 hours as full time rather than part time.
Shame you can't work 16 hrs per week JC full-time and get real-world full time wages!!
Will they class induction time as 'starting a full time job' though? Yes you are working over 16 hours per week in the induction period but you are not actually starting the job - if I remember rightly you still did not have a start date? Do you have anything in writing to say you have definitely got the job?
Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick!! But I guess that's what the JC lady meant this morning, when you go in next time explain what the situation is.*If you have nothing nice to say... say nothing*"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Well I'm just back from the CAB. I think I'm going to have a great time. I arrived a bit too early so I had to wait a bit. Once I got in I was introduced to people as they came in. Was shown where everything was.
Helped to make lables up and stick them up in the store cupboard. Learned how to sort the mail out. The lady I'm working with says that it will be good to have an admin person around as she has to do it herself.
So looking forward to tomorrow.0 -
