Just been offered the job that I went for on Tuesday after I chase for feedback. I have another job interview to go tomorrow just in case which also pays more than the other job. The only downside about the new job is I have start on Monday which is birthday but I have no choice because I need the money.

Good luck to everyone going to interviews today and tomorrow thank god its September because August was crap jobwise.

Congratulations, on job!.:D My Birthday too on Monday.:)
I'm just putting in another application & I'm waiting on a couple & had just thought "Bet I get an interview on my Birthday on Monday"!!!!
  • Well done people with interviews, jobs and voluntary work :T :T

I need a virtual kick up the jacksie as I'm still pee'd off with the old trout at the JC last week (think cross between Mrs Slocombe, Hyancinth Bucket & Sybil from Fawlty Towers) and I'm letting it affect my motivation

And why am I getting details of jobs in Inverness from the direct.gov website, when I've clearly entered my mid-kent postcode?!

Some good news, I have a trial shift tonight in a pub, not exactly what I was after but a job is a job!! Plus I have had a breakthrough in my revision for my numerical reasoning aptitude test for my graduate job application - I have now remembered all the formulas for percentages, woohoo!

Now then, as per my post from yesterday about my new starting soon ive been asked to go for my induction next week instead of nearer end of the month. As far a si know my 2 days of induction is 10 - 6 on 2 days so should i end my JSA the first day of my induction. Also the job is a min of 16 hours as opposed to full time but ive no idea yet when my start date will be for the job eg learning the job.

Should i just end the claim anyway ?

    Or

Should i leave it until i know for sure when i actually learn the job.

I dont want to claim jsa when i shouldnt but i also dont want to close the claim yet if not necessary

The actual job itself isnt full time but part time of 16 hours but if im at work 10 till 6 for days next week then 6am till 10am on saturday then im over the 16 hours arent i.
  • Hey everyone,

Does anyone know how it works to claim JSA whilst working? I have been offered a job at an after school club but it's only 3 hours a week. I won't get paid until 15th October as some of it will be in arrears.

I am starting uni part time in 2 weeks and until my forms are stamped I don't know what I'm entitled too. I'm also signing up to an agency but my CRB could take several weeks to come back.

My hope is that I can still claim JSA for this month and then sign off, just to get me enough money to get through.

I know we can claim if we are working under 16 hours, just after some advice on how this works

  • DCFC79 are you getting paid for the induction time you will be working or is it an unpaid introduction to the job before you start properly.

If you still don't have an official start date then I wouldn't close your claim as something may happen in the meantime and the job could be withdrawn  BUT I would definitely contact the JC and tell them what's happening.

If you are being paid then I would think you would lose a week's JSA (then back on it again while you 'look for other work' until your start date is confirmed. If you aren't being paid then I would think you just lose JSA for the days you are on the induction (ie, unavailable for other work).

Best to tell JC to make sure you don't do anything they see as wrong.

Re JSA & working, as far as I understand it, whatever you earn from work under 16 hrs per week will be taken from your weekly JSA amount. So if you earn £20 per week from your job and get £67.50 JSA, you keep the £20 and JSA is reduced by £20 giving you £47.50 JSA. In some cases there is a 'disregard' so you can 'keep' the first £10 or £20 you earn - this usually applies if you have children or are disabled. Best check the website for exact details.

Oh and after my little rant yesterday... I have me an interview on Wednesday morning :j:j REALLY want the job - it's just want I want to do - and then I can be smug to the JC lady on Friday rather than her being smug with me.

While nothing has happened on the jobs front the past couple of days I don't mind as I have had a couple of days of tennis officiating.

Really good hobby for me as it gets me meeting new people and get expenses, and food, paid for. It was also very motivational to be getting up at 6am and having a 'commute' as it gets you into that work routine.

Back to the grind on Monday!
  • Good Morning

I had a bit of good news yesterday - I was offered the job I was interviewed for last Friday - I have been very lucky as it was the first interview I have had after being made redundant. I start a week on Monday :j:j:j

To everyone still looking for work - please try to stay positive ! I feel as I have been on a roller coaster the last couple of monthes - some days feeling positive and others in the depths of despair. I was convinced I was going to have to leave the industry i have worked in all my life and start afresh somewhere new on a lot less money. In the end I have managed to get a job in the field I have experience and on more money than before. I don/t want to be flippant saying there is something out there for everyone - but please please do try and stay positive . I made a list of things I wanted to do around the house and garden and have slowly ticked off quite a few of them - that way I felt that at least I was achieving something while I was out of work.

I just want to thank everyone on this thread as I have really used peoples comments to keep me positive.

I truly wish everyone the best of luck in their searches :)
If everything happens for a reason - I wish someone would hurry up and tell me the reason !:)
