Thanks for the kind words of welcome people!
Today I inadvertently discovered that Manchester has a science park when sending off one of my applications. So I have been to their directory looking for vacancies at suitable companies. I have also sent emails with C.V. asking for vacancies/opportunities for work experience and a few to send by post as emails got returned.bluenoseam wrote: »I felt today I had much more self confidence, much more ability to get my point across well and while my voice wobbled a wee bit (understandable I suppose given my issues - and the idiot move of coffee this morning!) didn't sound anywhere near as nervous as I did....
...I think had I given that performance in the televised debates I'd be Prime Minister by now!!
Sounding positive bluenoseam! I like it. One of the worst parts about interviews are the nerves that come with them. Mine seem to bring out the lovely Mancunian accent with lots of local colloquialisms - which although affectionate are not professional in the slightest.
I think I have over-conditioned myself to not be nervous that I become to familiar!
Saying that though I do think It is important to keep in mind as a tip that the people carrying out the interview are just people like you or I. If you were not suitable to do the job then you wouldn't have got that far, If you are successful then you will be working alongside them and they will get to know you as a person anyhow. So just try to be relaxed in yourself is the way I see It, they want to give you the job and need to get to know you a bit better first. I know it seems a bit psychological/philosophical mumbo jumbo (or even hopelessly optimistic) but I kinda had an epiphany at the beginning of the year about life, the universe and everything. Feel the fear and do it anyway there are far worse things to be scared about than talking to strangers (as an adult).
Anyone else have tips that may actually make sense for beating nerves lol.0 -

Imagining your interviewer naked often helps!! Seriously though, what I try and remember is that an interview is a two-way street and I'm there to interview them too. Do I want to work for this company, could I spend 8hrs a day with these people? Showing a few nerves is not a bad thing anyway - it shows you care!0 -
Hi to all newcomers and good luck to everyone this week with applications, interviews, etc
There seems to be bit of postive theme at the mo, which is great! And I have had some good news today aswell - i have an interview for a job next thurs.
The funny thing is - didn't get an interview for a job that I thought I would. Now I've got an interview for a job that I applied for a few weeks ago (already chalked it off as a no) and thought there was less chance of getting an interview (didn't think had enough of skills they were looking for)!
It would be quite a salary drop, but there seems to be progression within the role, so am not worrying about this too much.0 -
Sorry this is a bit of a random post; I was just watching Neighbours (not sure what this says about me!), and brilliant quote regarding all of us feeling that our degrees are useless
"You may be able to lose your job, but no one can ever take your degree from you."
Just thought I'd share as it made me smile0 -

Hey Everyone,
So just got back from my interview about 15 minutes ago and feeling a it non-plussed really. The people were nice but I just wasn't convinced. The job spec said lots of room for progression and from the interview it seemed as if there was no room for progression whatsoever. Feeling all mopey now! Back to job hunting again!0 -
Hugs NikkeiJones!.:(
The ones that aren't all you thought are always the ones you seem to get offered too!.
Hope you get some better news soon!0 -
Don't worry NikkeiJones, despite the awesome interview yesterday i'm back on the search again - just remind yourself that good things come to those who wait (or are forced to wait...), something will come up.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

Just been offered the job that I went for on Tuesday after I chase for feedback. I have another job interview to go tomorrow just in case which also pays more than the other job. The only downside about the new job is I have start on Monday which is birthday but I have no choice because I need the money.
Good luck to everyone going to interviews today and tomorrow thank god its September because August was crap jobwise.0 -

Congratulations, hello2007!
I haven't posted much recently but I have been reading. My contract at my current work was supposed to end last week but has been kept for another 6 weeks, potentially more, but unfortunately on less hours than before (and I only work part-time in the first place!)So I'm still jobhunting as I really need a full-time permanent position, I'm fed up of not knowing whether I'm coming or going in my current work but at least my search isn't as urgent as before.
Still no word from majority of things I've applied for! Had a couple of rejection emails but the few jobs I've really wanted have heard nothing!
EDIT: Ugh! I just phoned about the job I applied for in July that I really, really, wanted and she was just writing out my rejection letter when I called. I really fancied that job and know I could have done it as well, all I wanted was an interview to stand a chance. It's the only job I've seen that is exactly what I'm looking for as well. So fed up of this lark!0
