    Hello everyone,

I used to come on here for a little bit a while back, but I havent been on in a while as I'm working, but looking for another job now. I hope you're all doing well!

Just wondering if you think this is fair...

I applied for a job at the local council. When I found the job vacancy there was just an ad listing some basic criteria and a document called 'Role Profile' which was a job description. No person spec. I checked, because I thought it was odd. But I printed the job description out and didn't check the document again. Now, I just logged back into my account on their website and looked at the role profile again again, and it's been changed. There is now a person spec on there. I obviously would have written my application very differently if I'd been able to see that. My application wasn't matched to the criteria. They uploaded a different document but called it the same name.

I'm so annoyed! There's no way I'm going to get an interview now but I reckon if I'd seen the person spec I would have had a decent chance. :( The deadline was now over a week ago.

Is there any point in me contacting them to let them know what happened and asking if I can resubmit my application? Will they just think I'm mad? It's probably pointless I suppose but I can't help feeling hard done by!

If it's already been a week I'd imagine they've already started shortlisting candidates/inviting for interviews. To be fair there is no harm in ringing up and putting your case forward, it shows initiative and an obvious interest in the job! Good luck :)

    Morning Everyone
Just offering up all my support today as the bank holiday is a day where I feel nothing else is going to happen with the majority of people been off or places not contacting because of the hols.
I've sent applications for a few places this week so will see what the week brings! Good Luck all! x

I just uploaded my cv onto Monster. I don't even know what the success rates are with places like that. Has anyone ever had experience with it?

Oh definitely worth doing, Montymud. A lot of recruiters search these sites for possible candidates. The important thing to do is to keep your CV at the top of recruiters' searches by making sure your CV hasn't been on there too long and therefore ends up at the bottom of the search 'pile'. About once a week take your CV off and then reattach it again - this will make you at the top of the search again. There are lots of sites like Monster. If you'd like some more sites then PM me and I'll send you a list.
  • I just copied this from another thread I had open, I'm new here so give me a chance. :D

I know I'm not the only one of the millions of unemployed right now, but even I am starting to feel deflated by the amount of rejections and just people not replying to the countless amount of applications I send. I check the direct.gov jobseekers website everyday which is bordering on obsession for me right now and I'm always phoning around, sending letters and asking in shops/supermarkets, I'm just not having any luck at all.

I'm not sure if it's down to me or my lack of experience as all I've done is a couple of work placements, one when I was 16 and one last year which borders around the same area of retail, I'm almost 21 now. It seems like when I'm invited to interviews which very rarely happens, I either don't hear back at all or get the usually 'unfortunately you have been unsuccessful, we wish you the best of luck with your future career'. I guess employers are feeling the pinch right now aswell as the people trying to find work and don't always have time to reply to everyone.

So is anyone else in the same boat as me and having trouble finding work? Any advice would also be great.

You just have to keep applying and hoping that something will come along eventually. The market is saturated with people trying to get jobs at the moment but don't worry - you will get there eventually!

NESSI: Thank you for the tip there regarding Monster. I will drop you a PM fir some others, thank you!

So, some semi good news on the job front here although I am not getting overly excited just yet. I applied to the Reed Graduate Programme yesterday. Took well over an hour to fill out the app. Anyway, they emailed me this morning and have invited me to round 2 od the recruitment process - a psychometric test. I have had loads of practice with them but my weakest area is mathematical reasoning. I hope I don't fluff it!
  • Good Morning everyone !

I had my first interview on friday - it went ok I think ! They seemed to indicate it would be going to second interview so hopeful I may hear today or tomorrow if I have got through !!!

I have also managed to find another job which I would really like so have applied for that - it closes on Friday so fingers crossed I get an interview !!! I must admit my spirits have been lifted that I have seen a couple of jobs in the field in which I have experience as there was absolutely nothing for the first month or so !

I have my appointment with the job centre on thursday too , to see how I am getting on :(

    Good Luck everyone this week
If everything happens for a reason - I wish someone would hurry up and tell me the reason !:)
