Hi Lumefayle, welcome, just wish it was in nicer circumstances
(Furny waves!) good luck for Saturday!. I also watch the NHS website daily as we have a large hospital near me, I know what you mean.
Yes they seem to reckon September gets better (as poster before mentioned) I think it is Uni Students going off, education establishments re-opening & Christmas posts becoming available.
I saw my dream job on a schools website after the application date had finished & school had broken up but e-mailed them anyway to contact me if the post had not been filled so hopefully I should be getting a call any day as admin staff return. I would love this job so much & I'm hoping because they only advertised it on there own site it has not been filled or had many applicants, it would be so ideal for me I have relevant qualifications & experience & I feel it's about time I got a bit of luck! ( & have had it on my mind for 6 weeks!) but not holding much hope really.
Had to turn down an interview today for a term time job (gold dust I know) because it was in the next town to mine & I worked out the travel times & It would be really pushing it for collecting my son in time for school with traffic (Tut!) & I'd already asked if there was a chance of an earlier start & finish time, I didn't want that worry every day at work but something else will come along I tell myself (think positive!).:). As my son returns to school next week I don't have the childcare worry when given a interview now as I have with the others through the summer hols, so that's a bit of a weight off my shoulders.
    Good Luck all!!!

    Hello,

Can I join you guys.I'm relativity new here (not been on the boards for a few years - forgot I had even registered until it told me so) and am like many looking for work. Feel like I should give a bit of an introduction/overview as to where I'm at.

I worked in admin since I was sixteen but went to Uni and have now graduated with First Class Hons in Biomedical science - which I'm over the moon with still can't believe It. Anyhow now comes the hard part getting a job that incorporates areas of my degree. Ideally would like to be working in the NHS Trainee biomed positions are few and far between but other positions such as lab assistants and technicians come up which I've been applying for Also been applying for admin positions in the NHS relevant to areas such as clinical trials & Research just to get a foot in the door. The NHS jobs website has to be watched like a hawk, there seems to be no set times when jobs are posted and thanks to the 'this post will close when sufficient applications have been received' line some positions can be closed in hours - I have even had one close on me within the space of 30 mins from when I started my application.

Have sent my CV to various scientific recruitment organizations have uploaded my C.V to the likes of monster as well as new scientist. But have heard nothing from any of these avenues.

Have been claiming JSA since the beginning of July roughly and am getting fed up with the job center. No idea who my personal adviser is should I need to get in contact with them, Am still waiting for a 30 min appointment that was supposed to be had the first time I went to sign on, was good as told that I wouldn't get a job in my desired field through them. But to be honest wasn't expecting much from them in the first place.

I'm still at home with the rent's at the grand old age of 24 am a member of the can't drive club. But have an amazing fella (AKA driver!) we have been together for 6 years now. Can't wait to get working again and join the real world, start saving for a place of our own, a much needed holiday

I have an interview on Saturday - For a Saturday job at Manchester Royal Infirmary in the department where they sterilize surgical instruments etc so fingers crossed.

 Bye for now, thanks for reading - too all those with interviews coming up good luck!

Congratulations on getting your first class degree and welcome. Good luck with the Saturday interview. Sorry to hear about the state of the NHS website, sounds like a nightmare
  • Hi guys, another one who wants to join this thread. Bit of background...

In 2008 i graduated from uni. Around the same time i was diagnosed with a neurological condition which got worse and worse and stopped me from working. Prior to that i had always worked since the age of 14 and i worked full time when i was at uni. Over the past few months my health has been getting a bit better and i feel like i am ready for part time work. I want to work in the mental health field but i am prepared to take pretty much anything right now just to get my foot back on the employment ladder. Trouble is, when you have been out of work for 3 and a half years no one wants to employ you. I am currently doing some voluntary work which i enjoy but its still not enough to convince employers to give me a chance. I am trying to get on to one of those back to work schemes that the jobcentre run, but they aren't being particularly helpful in helping me get on to one.

Because of my health there are limitations on what i can do. I really believe working full time will be incredibly detrimental to my health but i dont think i have a choice. If i limit myself to just part time work i am probably cutting off most of the jobs going. I am currently awaiting an incapacity benefit tribunal and have been waiting for almost a year now- i can no longer afford to live off £53 a week. I guess the government is winning the 'forcing the sick back to work' war.

Oh and to make things worse my boyfriend of 6 years left me a couple of months ago. Everything is falling apart :(
Knock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man

I remember your thread about your boyfriend leaving you, you've had a pretty rough time of it, bless you.

On the work front, if you're interested in working in mental health, have you looked at the numerous care agencies for people with mental health issues? This might be an 'in' for you and most care organisations are very flexible with working hours, especially those that cater more for care in the community. Residential care homes are more likely to have set shifts.

In the past, I've worked in community support and care, so if this is something you might like to look at, feel free to pm me as there are a few things that you'd benefit from being made aware of.

    HTH :)

Oh my head hurts so much. Like I said earlier, I got through to round 2 of a graduate programme and the next step is a mathematical reasoning test, my weakest point by far. I have spent most of the night getting my head around the percentage formulas needed to answer different percentage problems but I have to do the assessment by the 4th of September. I still have to learn ratios and fractions lol!! Oh my, I am so going to fluff it!!
  • Yesterday I prepared some speculative letters and have sent them out to all the lawyers in the area. Hoping I will get a reply back.

There is also a restaurant near me which has acquired by a big company and is being renovated so sent a letter to them as well.

Also have an informal interview with the CAB tomorrow so we'll see how things pan out.

    Hope everybody finds a job.

    Hi,

Many thanks for your reply. I have been looking at care agencies, but i can't seem to find much which involve working with people with mental health issues. Not really sure im looking in the right places.

I'll drop you a PM a bit later to ask about the community support and care work, thanks :)

I was going to apply for an admin role for a mental health charity but ive just seen they have had almost 650 applicants  Don't think i'll even bother applying now.

It would appear the shocker of an interview last week was just what I needed to get myself back in the saddle, just been for my interview there and honestly I'd say it was two completely different people at work there, I felt today I had much more self confidence, much more ability to get my point across well and while my voice wobbled a wee bit (understandable I suppose given my issues - and the idiot move of coffee this morning!) didn't sound anywhere near as nervous as I did. I'm not sure how much of that is down to the fact I "don't really know" the job (it's Cash Generator, I know the retail side of things but not as much as I know games retail which my interview last week was for) but today was a LOT easier for me to get over the points I really should have last week!

Just waiting on a phonecall either way now (either today or tomorrow) but fingers crossed! Hope everyone else is having as positive a day as I'm having so far - I think had I given that performance in the televised debates I'd be Prime Minister by now!!

Keep the faith, there's something out there for everyone - you never know when Megan Fox will need to replace her modesty tape application assistant :D

thanks, had a smile when at the JC, some female got in a bit of a strop with the guy at the podium as either she was late or missed her sign on time and was told to use the phone to book another time.

Mm, isn't it depressing? I'm just hoping it's going to be a bit more positive than the past few weeks which have been horrendous. Got to keep optimistic!!

    thanks

Hi everyone, I've not been on here in ages, and it seems some of you are still looking for work, I really hope that changes soon.

I thought I'd finally got things sorted. I'd got my place at uni and was recently offered a part time job at an after school club to work a Thurs and Fri 3 til 6. It wasn't a lot but fitted in around uni and I planned to look for a second part time job, and keep looking out for a Teaching Assistant post.

However, as usual, things haven't worked out so well. Had an email from uni today to say they had got my days wrong, I will attend on a Thursday evening, not a Wednesday as originally thought.

Luckily my work have said they can keep me to do a Friday but I'll now only earn £17 a week instead of £35. I still have no idea what finance I'll get for uni as until I've had my induction and got my form stamped on the 12th Sept I can't send it off.

Still no new jobs around for me to apply for, hoping Christmas temp jobs will come out very soon.

So I'm hoping the job centre can let me still claim as I'll only be working 3 hours a week. SO fed up again
