Great news to those that have found work!!
I've been getting back into studying mode again, glad I have just enough to paid for exams for Nov/Dec sitting. My brain has turned to jelly and needs a good work out, I forgot my door keys this morning the first time in years.
I have three potential job contracts. One job sounds 'too good to be true' completely perfect, great daily rate and my CV was submitted by the agency on Thursday. The second job by another agy, I received a missed voicemail message late on Friday about a immediate job starting next week, so really hope this is still available by the time I can ring back on Monday.. Very positive about the forthcoming week (except for doom Friday sign on day).student loan : £7083  2. Halifax : £661; Capital One :£297, BarclaysCard :£370 ; Barclays Bank CDL : last payment due 2013 ; AIM 1 : £PAY OFF CREDIT CARDS @ £70PW for the first 3 months of new job
Saving aim : £12000 per year Nov 2011 - Nov 2012 (£250 pw)0 -

Well done for those with good news.
I think it's starting to look up a bit now on the job front in my area as xmas posts are starting to be advertised. I'm going to pick up a couple of forms from employers from the retail park today. They may be only xmas posts but will keep me busy for a few months & bring in the money plus there is always a chance of been kept on!.
In fact for mums like myself who struggle with childcare now is a good chance to get a shop job as I can work whilst ds is at school & only have the one week October holiday to sort out childcare wise before the post finishes when the kids do at xmas.0 -
Hello,
I was a bit more active on this thread earlier this year when I was job hunting, and have been lurking ever since, thinking of you all on the increasingly difficult job hunt. At the time I was lucky to have found a temporary job after only a fortnight of searching.
Well my temporary job ends in 3 weeks. I have been actively applying for work for 2 months already and had 2 unsuccessful interviews and one other next week. It's noticably harder IMHO to find a job now than it was at the start of the year. I'm fortunate in a way I'm still with my parents who are comfortable and could pretty much help me financially for as long as necessary. But I've battled with quite bad anxiety and depression for the past 6 months or so and working is kind of my 'protective factor', in that when I am working and focused on a task I am completely OK, but as soon as I'm out of the workplace (even for days off) I get dragged down into a depressive abyss I find it hard to get out of.
I've just been on one website where it tells you how many people have applied for each job... some of the customer services ones have over 2000 applicants! Even though those aren't the kind of jobs I'm going for it's kind of highlighted how hard this job hunting is and I've just spent the last half hour in tears!
Anyway, hello all, hope we can all get ourselves a job soon xxOU Student! - ED209, SDK125, DSE212, SK124, DSE141, SD226, DXR222, DD303, DD307 = BSc Psychology0 -

If you still don't have an official start date then I wouldn't close your claim as something may happen in the meantime and the job could be withdrawn  BUT I would definitely contact the JC and tell them what's happening.
If you are being paid then I would think you would lose a week's JSA (then back on it again while you 'look for other work' until your start date is confirmed. If you aren't being paid then I would think you just lose JSA for the days you are on the induction (ie, unavailable for other work).
Best to tell JC to make sure you don't do anything they see as wrong.
yes im getting paid for the induction(didnt say i was apologies). Thanks bonnie, yes ill give the JC a call on monday to ask the best solution.0 -

not applied for JL but ive done waitrose and they are something quite different. I had my contact in waitrose help me with the application, he said you had to include certain words etc as they look for them but didnt help as still got rejected.
Good luck with the application.0 -

Bless you :grouphug: Please try not to let this get you down.
Personally I wouldn't take too much notice of the number of applications the website is claiming - you don't know how many of them are totally genuine (ie from people 100% willing and able to do that job) or from abroad without work permit (I used to work in a recruitment agency and the number of people applying without work permits was incredible!) also by advertising the number of 'applications' the agency is promoting itself - "look how many people apply to our agency, we must be good!" If there are not so many employers recruiting, and not so many jobs on offer, there aren't so many commissions up for grabs so it's a big fight for the money!!
This may be cynical but in 25 years of working (and sometimes not working) nothing would surprise me
Best concentrate on YOUR particular application and how wonderful YOU are and how any employer would be SO lucky to have you etc etc without using up energy wondering what other people may or may not be doing.
Hope this helps honey, keep the faithx

I've been along to some training today to take part in a voluntary scheme that a mental health charity that i already volunteer for is running. At the end of the training they mentioned that they will be setting up quite a few new schemes within the next couple of months. The little "potential job" bells started ringing in my head so i asked one of the trainers if they will have any jobs going (i really want a job in mental health) and the guy (who already knows me from my other voluntary work and knows i am desperate for a job as i ask him every time i see him whether they have any jobs going) said that i am already at the top of his list of people to hire...but it obviously depends on what jobs they will have available and who else applies as they have to give the jobs to the most qualified people. Apparently they will be advertising the jobs in the next couple of weeks so he has told me to keep an eye out. So thats some potentially positive news. Also, someone else who had come along for the training over heard my conversation and he said that he used to work as a support worker for people with learning difficulties and mental health issues and the place that hired him are always looking for people and they aren't bothered about experience (i have very limited experience in this field). So i've just been on their website and they do have vacancies and it says "experience is welcome, but not essential", so im going to apply for that. Fingers crossed!
Good luck on all the interviews/job hunts folksKnock me down I'll get right back up again, I'll come back stronger than a powered up Pac-Man0 -
Got offered another interview for a well known chain of electronics and computer gadgets
I only applied yesterday, and one of the questions asked about 3 product lines I had good knowledge of (I may have had to lie here and profess my expertise in computer software, accessories and music products) time to get revising I think!! I have a slight feeling they are only interviewing me because I'm female, and this is definitely a more 'male' environment (at least if their sheffield branch is anything to go by!).
