He said that I have made the shortlist as I had a great personality BUT my offivce experience is limited

Someone with a great personality can learn the office side of things, but an experienced office person with no personality is no good to him whatsoever :D I know who I'd pick... Good luck!

  • Argh just found the perfect job for an office junior, spent ages typing up a nice cover letter and tweaked my CV, then do the email and it turns out the email address provided isn't real (stupid Directgov) :/ so then I had to go onto the website for the company and find out their contact address and turns out the email should have been the person's name with the word 'solicitors' on the end, so luckily I tried that and it worked! Otherwise that's time I just wasted and a good job I wanted not gone to waste. Anyone else feel like they apply for at least 100 jobs a week and not even get an interview? I swear going to uni and having a degree means nothing (Human Biology!).
  • I got apparent meaningless degree too in law. I wish mine was 100 a week, mines about 10 a fortnight. Job markets slow around here and with no driving licence, no more money to get my licence (I can drive just not passed) I'm as limited as the bus timetables are!

Fingers crossed that other people gave up at the first hurdle. It could work in your favour.

I have degree too - and not finding it much of a benefit. Also have problem not being able to drive - its limiting! :(

I've barely applied for any jobs this week too, its been a very slow week. :(

Waiting on outome of application form with closing date of Weds - thinking if don't here anything by end of tomorrow, then not got an interview. It will be so frustrating if I don't get and interview for this job - I have the required specification and very interested in working for that particular sector. Fingers crossed I hear something tomorrow

True :) I was thinking of notifying directgov they have the wrong contact address for the job but going by your logic that wouldn't work in my favour

I know of a law graduate from a top uni with a 1st and can't get a job, which is worrying! But then I also know a girl with Law (probably a 2.1 or first) and she's currently in Beijing on a 2month work placement with a law firm there so, it's just how lucky you can get! I wish I could at least drive, 21 without so much as one driving lesson to my name :o

lol, I'm 30 and cannot drive. I have had 10 or so lessons in a manual but I am going to have to switch to automatic!

Thank you bonny_bumpkins - I truly hope the employer sees it that way!

Well done for using your initiative Disenchanted and getting that app off!

I too have a degree and its just not worth a darn thing these days. Wish I had picked a degree that led to a professional qualification like physiotherapy or something! Ah well.

Please can I too join the "Non driving feel like I have a useless Degree club!".:rotfl:
I so understand where you are coming from montymud each time I moan I wish I'd picked a more physical degree my hubby tells me that it's not too late to re-train but I did 6yrs of Higher Education (college/uni) after school & just don't think I could face it again especially now I have a family but I'm also aware that I can't leave it too late (in my 30's) if I do fancy going down that route. I took 5 years out to bring my son up to school age & now he's at school I feel like "Right, what am I going to do now" & a bit lost really. Another example is my hubby left school early at 14yrs old nearly 15 (didn't sit his GCSE'S) did a basic college course & apprentiship in the building trade (joinery) & has never been out of work since (touch wood! no pun intended, lol!)& has always earnt much more than me even when I was working full time.
I am secretly jealous of people like him who have a trade/skill they are naturally very good at & can make good money from, very lucky people! it must be so satisfying.
  • A little something for everyone with interviews / waiting for calls / job search / having someone recognise your degree...
