I'm applying for a lot of admin/secretarial positions but don't have any experience, I'm thinking of doing some voluntary work that involves some level of administration so that when the question of experience comes up, I can say YES! Anyone know how I can look into this?

What about the Citizens Advice Bureau?

See for me though, reverse psychology works better for me. If I have an interview and I convince myself I'm not that bothered and won't get it anyway, I end up getting it. However, if I tell myself I really want the job and am going to get it, I end up being disappointed!

My boyfriend constantly moans at me for it, but I've used it all my life, even with school exam results, convince myself I've failed them all and then was pleasantly surprised when I got good marks! I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than even more disappointed!

    But that's just me!

I'm trying to do the same thing. I had an interview last Monday and i'm supposed to hear back Friday or Monday. I had no news on Friday so i've decided that I haven't got it so that I won't be too disappointed when I get the "no" tomorrow. I'm finding it hard to get the excitement levels up for interviews these days with so many disappointments.

    Have a good week all.

just to say that if you are at home even if you are trying to get work i have created a small forum for homemakers. Its being discussed on the old style board on here.

Its for people who dont really work outside the home for any reason.

hope to see some of you there.

Well done you, and Good Luck for this afternoon!

Another non-event Monday for me it seems....

Me again....I just phoned about the job I had a letter saying shortlisting had been delayed for. She said it had been delayed but they were planning to get back to people in the next few days....however, she then said they were looking to re-open it as they had been working on it the last few days. I'm a little confused by the fact she used the word "re-open", I really hope that doesn't mean they're going to advertise it again when people who've already applied have waited over a month already. Oh well, hopefully I'll hear something in the next few days and if it does get re-advertised I'm going to re-apply but work even harder on my application next time!
  • Well I have just applied for a job that is just down the road from my house- Hope I get an interview at least as its right up my street- and it means I wont have to drive to work everyday either!! That sounds ideal for you hannahsmummy1 hope you get an interview!.:D
I have an interview tomorrow I'm a little apprehensive as it's a job I've never done before/no experience in (care work) but it's close to where I live & the hours will fit well with the family I'll just have to get used to working through the nights/different sleep patterns if I get it, I was actually surprised to get the interview. We shall see how I go!
  • Disenchanted, I also want to go into the Admin field and have no employment experience of admin either. I volunteer as an admin for CAB and it looks great on CV and my manager is now a reference of mine. If you pop into your local branch they should be able to help and most of them pay travel expenses so you are not out of pocket. It might be good to see if you could do a slot on reception too, I asked for a shift on reception as a lot of Reception/Admin posts pop up sometimes and it might be a good way to hop into admin with little experience through a joint role.

Had a meeting with an agency that I am signed up with to query about a few jobs and find about previous ones that have applied for and not gained any feedback. Recruiter told me that they still have not had feedback (company is renowned to be slow), and no interviews have been conducted, so still a chance with that one!

She also said that August is notoriously slow and that things will pick up in a few weeks....I really hope it does :)
