Excuse me while I bang my head against this brick wall.

After getting another rejection I asked for feedback. While I appreciate that she took the time to give it I can't help think it was a little pointless.

    'Other candidates had more experience''
Understood...So what can I do to convince somebody to give me a chance as without a job I can't get experience?

Hello2007, I hope you got on ok at the job centre. It's never a lovely experience but I've always found the advisors to be ok and occasionally you get a really good one. They can separate 'the wheat from the chaff' so to speak, so there is now reason why they won't treat you exactly how you deserve to be! I find the worse bit walking through the intimidating crowd that tends to hang around outside.

Did that company get back to you in the end? I often find that when I speak to people that promised email takes an age to actually arrive

Yes the company did get back to me and I have a interview on Monday. I have rearrange my appointment with the job centre in case I get the job on Monday.

    Thank you for your support.

Filled in a strange application form for a well known high street company.

They were asking questions about my religion, gender, age, sexual preferences

Thought this stuff was illegal. Also it had no relevance to the job advertised
Also no contact number, job was advertised for one location, then later on another location was mentioned

Can I have the job of the person who created the application form please;). I am not in HR but could create a relevant, consistent form

    rant over....

A few jobs do seem to be slowly been released due to students going to Uni etc & a few are advertising now in my area for the temporary xmas jobs.
I'm still waiting for a few jobs to get back to me (closing dates not past yet) so hopefully something will come of them.
One I would really love but it's not many hours & I saw it after the closing date but sneakily sent an e-mail asking if the position is not filled could I be considered! its at a school so I will not hear back until Sept. Another is in care (nights) which I have never done before but would allow me to work full time without paying out for childcare & my friend who works there thinks I've got a good chance.
My other I am starting is relief help at school but it is just "as & when" others are ill initially so i'm hoping I can run it with one of the others I'm waiting for!
Another week nearly over! good luck everyone!

    Totally agree with you :(

Applied for 3 more jobs today, one is nearly a £10,000 pa pay cut, but really do not have any options left! :(

I am going to apply for another job at weekend, which really like the sound of - but it is 14 month contract, so if did get it will be in exactly the same position next year...maybe the job market will be better then!

Better get ringing my mortgage company, etc this afternoon and let them know the situation

I'm another one who hates Fridays! I'm sitting here all fed up with nothing to do and nowhere to go and the only jobs that I have applied for are ones that I don't particularly want (of course its any port in a storm at the moment and should I be offered one I will be eternally grateful).

I thought that as well when I took a 12 month contract in April 2010, however it didn't actually turn out that way. I keep thinking though surely things have got to get better soon.

I have to say my mortgage company (Nationwide) have been excellent through both my periods of unemployment. I was absolutely terrified when I picked the phone up to ring them and was nearly in tears. I rang the number that they give you for if you are having trouble making your payments and they were really helpful and not threatening at all. I think that whilst I was paying something towards it they were happy. During the year that I was employed I paid extra each month so that by the second period of unemployment I had a nice overpayment and they were happy for me to pay a reduced amount each month until the overpayment is gone but my mortgage is not very big by today's standards so perhaps that is why. Once the overpayment has gone I will have to re-negotiate but hopefully by then I will have a job.

Good luck and I hope I haven't gone on too much!
  • Hi everyone, I'm new here, totally unhappy in my job and need to leave as its making me depressed. Realise I probably sounds really selfish and I know I should be grateful to have a job at all.
I did go for another job at my company and really really wanted it, it would have been perfect but they told me this week that I didn't get it and now I'm in pieces as to what to do next. Completely out of the loop in terms of interviewing, job hunting, cvs etc and trying to explain to my OH how I feel is like banging my head on a wall - he's about to start his dream job so can't understand how I am on the verge of quitting without having something else lined up!
Also, as well as having bills, mortgage etc to pay for we are getting married in 18months and have loads that we need to save up.
