I didn't have a great day yesterday either. I went to a new agency and was seen by a girl who was barely out of school. She made me do a selection of stupid tests (err, been a PA for 20 years I think I can type!!!) and she really didn't have much of a clue. I then went to an agency that have previously found me work to find out that my contact there (who was half-decent) had suddenly left and then when I got home I had to phone up to reclaim Job Seekers Allowance. I got a right miserable bloke on the phone who sent me to the job centre for my reclaim appointment with 50 minutes notice But at least the guy who I saw there was on my wavelength (we even had a bit of a laugh) but he did say that admin/secretarial work had pretty much dried up. I know that's the truth but sometimes you just don't want to hear it, do you?
I've got to keep busy today .. it really is the only way of staying sane through this.0 -

I have a question....does anyone know what "leeting" means? I've tried dictionary.com and it doesn't appear to be a word? Thing is, a job I applied for a few weeks ago sent me a letter today which I automatically thought was a rejection letter but it's not. It basically says that due to staff annual leave etc. that "leeting of this post has been slightly delayed".
Now I obviously get the jist that it's taking them alot longer to go through applications than it would normally but can anyone tell me what the definition of "leeting" actually is? :embarasse
Tbh, I'm extremely grateful that they've bothered to write a letter to let me know, I'd completely written it off and it's a job I really fancy and have experience in as well. Fingers crossed!
Following on from this....how long would you leave it before chasing this up again? The letter was dated 3rd August, so I was thinking I should wait until the 17th as that will be another 2 weeks passed? Or should I just wait until the end of the month?0 -
Another boring day today, ive got a meeting tomorrow at teh JC about my payments which will be fun and il report tomorrow whats said.0

I had an interview this morning. It seems like it could be a job that I would enjoy (its a shame the pay is so low!) but it will be one hell of a commute so I'm not sure if the low pay would be enough for me to run a car and a house (I live on my own so its only me who pays the bills). I guess whatever will be will be.
It is taking absolutely ages though. I applied at the end of June and at the interview today she told me the occupational health appointment that I will have to pass is booked in for the end of August so if I am lucky enough to get the job it will be Septermber before I start.
I have nothing else on the horizon really so fingers sort of crossed!0 -
Hmm I got the impression they were after a middle aged - older person at what I thought was an interview but it was an informal chat before a proper interview.0

Two rejections today. First one was fine (they wanted a techie which I am not). Second one didn't come up with enough competancy based examples. Fair enough but the agency didn't pass the message over very well. I guess I don't like someone in a very thick west midlands regional accent bearing bad news and (probably unintentionally) coming over as slightly patronising, brings out the intolerant snob in me;) (I need to improve my attitude).
At least I had feedback. Will work on my competancy based examples in the meantime (though not through the agent).
Does everyone get the 'you have a lovely personality and came across well' message when they get feedback? Is it similar to 'you came second' which so many people seem to hear?0 -
Going to have a beer later to drown my sorrows!0

Hi all
just found this forum yesterday and found the support offered to people in same position really touching.
i am being redundant from current position, the office in closing down (found out just before xmas) and am now in my notice period - last day 30th september.
I have been looking for a job for the few past months. I knew it was gonna be tough, but was probably still niave to the situaiton.
i've had good and bad experiences. 3 interviews; one went awful - 1st compency based interview in a long time and it was a bit of shock! other went well, but only feedback from agency was they didn't think i had right experience. The job has still not been filled, which makes me wish that companies would just take a chance on someone.
the third was 2 weeks ago - found out got 2nd interview today. Me against one other person - they couldn't decide who was best.
i was wondering if anyone had any advise on how to stand out as better candiadate for 2nd interview?0 -

Welcome to the forum. You have done well to get feedback on the interviews you have had. Good luck at the second interview, just be yourself and be squeeky clean on appearance. You could be cheeky and ask them for any concerns as one of your questions
thanks for the good luckjob hunting is a pretty scary thing! i have worked for the same company for 7 years, so bit out of touch. Defintely nice to read other people's experiences
Constructive feedback is such an important thing, so can actually move forward and use it postively
i saw the question about any concerns being listed on 2nd interview advise. the job has 2 parts - one where i have a lot of experience and the other with little, so i guess that would be their concern. don't know whether i should highlight this further? or try and concentrate on how I can become competent in this0
