Hi All, I've not been on this thread for a a couple of months (although I did dip-in for a quick look now and again) because I found some temporary work. It has unexpectedly come to an end so I'm back at square one again. It seems even worse than before out there (must be because of summer) and what jobs are out there seem to be even worse-paid than they were back in June. I'm beginning to get really worried about it all and dreading having to sign on again BUT I find this forum really useful and supportive so expect to see more of you.

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm going to try not to fret too much about stuff and hope that next week brings something positive.
  • Nessi - I'd try not to worry too much. I think its just really quiet now because its summer. I think once we hit September things will improve again and hopefully you'll find something again soon. In the meantime I find doing other things helps - I have my children so there's always things to do but anything helps really like do the house/garden, a hobby/sports, a course, voluntary work or go on holiday.

My husband had two interviews this week he feels went pretty well, and somebody he knows has recommended him to an employer who is calling him next week for a 'chat'. He has a third interview in about 10 days time with another company. An amazing amount going on for August as he has only had one other interview in the past 2 months.

Just popping in to say I'm still reading and sympathising!

I've just finished my first week at my new job and now realise I know more than my manager and other staff in the office about my particular field but am going to have to work very carefully to get things operating the way I and my equal colleague want things to run!

But it wasn't a bad first week and there are some nice people in my office so it could be a lot worse.

    Hi Everyone
I have been lurking on this thread for a while as I'm also looking for work, but it has to fit round or in with school age son.
I have currently only been looking for term time jobs but a job has come up today with a high street retailer in an area I would enjoy & would learn to love more about the problem is it is vague & doesn't tell you how many hours/shifts (just says must be available to work 2-6) & the job is only advertised on there own company website.
I'm of course trying to think of childcare round school & hols & if it would be viable?.
Would you ring the employer/store & ask for more information?, I'm thinking it would save the effort & time applying if I knew all the info first but not sure if is the correct thing to do. :(

Well another Saturday is upon us.

Can't say I have much to report this week...everything moves soooooo slowly in the recruitment game. Had what turned into a telephone interview on Monday and so should hear back from that next week. Other than that it is just a case of firing out the applications in the hope that something sticks.

That's the way I feel as well :( It takes so long these days to even get a rejection letter, and you're lucky if you get anything at all! It's the waiting that really is the killer for me :( Applying for things knowing it might be a month or 2 before you get any correspondence!
