It's to acknowledge they have at least received it, I don't mind these, at least I know it's gone somewhere instead of off into the ether somewhere. Also, at least you know when to give up hope on a successful application instead of being left hanging.
But why advertise a job with your e-mail address if you're not even going to be there to read the applications? Doesn't make sense to me.

They probably are there, it's just easier to have an auto reply message send automatically to let candidates know their application has been received and a time scale so you know when you've been unsuccessful. They will get a lot of applications and won't sit and read them as they come in, they'll likely have more than that to do in their day. It's time management on their part and in their position (and being someone who has sifted through hundreds of applications) I'd do the same!

Anyone else hate it when you send your CV and written application through e-mail and you get an automated response saying they'll be back in so-and-so day's time. What's the point of that?? I'd rather send my e-mail to someone who is available to read it. Time wasters!

At least it's a response, consider that against how many applications are made when you get absolutely no acknowledgement at all.

Hope everybody is okay around here, apologies for not posting for a while but I do drop in regularly to see how people are doing. It's still not easy out there is it?

Best of luck to you all.

I have a job interview tomorrow that I'm starting to panic about at the last minute like I always do. I haven't had an interview for a year so all my answers are rusty.

It's for a carehome around the corner from me. I have a feeling they're more interested in your personality rather than skills so I'm trying not to panic and overthink it.

God the waiting is always so horrible. I'm just like Argh!

Agreed. But its your responsibility to get there phone number and to either speak to someone before sending it to get a genuine email address or to chase up the application after the instructed number of days.
The harder one works the luckier one gets!

they have other jobs to do and may dedicate a set time to look over applications or when other people are free, i cant imagine anyone sat there just waiting for the applications to roll in,

Current employers found a job for me whilst I was on holiday. It is over 2 hours away for an unspecified number of hours and I am supposed to start today, the first day back from holiday. I will be making a number of phone calls today!

Can i ask your opinions again please, got an application form and would it be a good idea to include a cover letter and cv with the form, it doesnt ask for 1 but would it help. I just want to make sure i improve my chances

I agree, would send a covering letter but not a cv as well as the application form!
I'd only send the application form to the address on the form, not the business address. Hope you get an interview out of it!
  • Not alot happening for me today but it's a bank holiday in Glasgow so wasn't expecting much.

I really hope I get a phone call this week from a job I applied for a couple of weeks ago that had a closing date of last week. I'm going to phone them towards the end of the week anyway as the job would be perfect!
