As for JSA, yes, go and apply for it. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for housing benefit. The worst they can say is no.
Hi starryshell,
Thats the exact feedback I am getting , either too qualified and I would find the job profile too easy and boring or being underqualified and less experienced required for high position jobs.... and I feel the same if I would ever work...its sad..depressing...I have a mortgage on my house...and my wife earns well....so dont think i will qualify for housing benefit...dont know what to...so depressing as i was hoping i will get one of the jobs i went for an interview last week...the feedback after the interview from the recruitment agency was that I had a very very good chance as the company liked me very much....only to be told later, that the company decided that I was too good and would definitely leave them after working for some time....:(:sad:.. it is so depressing to be at home, clean, iron, cook, drop my child and pick up my child, while I see my OH work hard and earn the livelihood...and ofcourse bcos of this situation, the relationship between me and OH is going down...
what industry are you in?? Am into 'Travel'.........0 -
I'm back from signing on. They've changed the system in our job centre - they don't check for job vacancies on their system anymore when you sign on, they do it once a month during a half hour appointment (why it takes half an hour when I can check the job centre website in about 10 minutes I don't know). I got a right jobsworth this time. To start with he actually read my diary (fair enough I suppose its his job but I think this is the first time anybody has actually read it before signing it) and also despite having been unemployed for almost six months now I've only today found out that I've been filling in my diary wrong and I got a telling off! Apparently when I write down that I have rang an agency I am supposed to give the agency's telephone number (presumably to save them a job) and also (and this is a classic) when I buy the local paper and there are no jobs for me to apply for (which is virtually every week) I have to pick a job that I am not qualified for, write it in the diary and put why I haven't applied for it.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry!
To all those people with degrees you have my sympathy. I don't have a degree and got told by Tesco that I was overqualified to stack shelves and that they wouldn't give me a job as they thought I would be off as soon as something better comes along.0 -

What a joke! Like it's any of their business really why you can't apply for a job.
Iy does amaze me how different each job centre is. I've never once been asked what jobs i've applied for during the two weeks before appointments. My monthly review is a waste of time as all they do is ask me if I need any support, and for next week I have a questionnaire to fill in on whether I will keep a job once I have one! Like I'd say no!Saved: £1566.53/ £20000 -
Hey everyone, want your opinions on what you would do in this situation.
...would you:
A. Cancel the nursery interview in favour of joining the agency as it's school based so directly relevant to what my degree will be
B. Go to the nursery interview even though it's not what I want to do and keep everything crossed I can get work from the agency and hope that Friday works out
Really unsure on this one. Part of me wants to cancel but then part of me thinks is it wise when I've been trying for so long to get work.
As both are interviews, I'd go for option B - better safe than sorry - might also be good practise for the agency/after school club interview.
Good luck!0 -
I've had the comment "you're a little overqualified for the job" during interviews in the past. I've tried to respond with something like "Surely, it just means you're getting a bargain." I've had some interesting responses to it, most of them positive. I still didn't get the jobs I applied for though but I was told i'd be kept in mind if something else came along.
Welcome to the newcomers, sorry you have to be here but hope you find the support and encoragement you need while looking for work.0 -
Nothing new for me to report, no interviews or anything lined up. I am a graduate too, did law, nothing much to do with it around here, fairly small practices, no big law offices and I don't really want to go into law anyways, not sure it's for me. Graduated 3 years ago, spent a lot of time looking for jobs. Did some temp work for about 18 months but other than that not having any luck at all, appear to be unemployable. But I don't mind too much, I live at home, minimal outgoings which suits the minimal incomings, fantastic voluntary work at BHF and Citizens Advice Bureau and doing distance learning to beef up my qualifications, halfway through an IT one and then gonna do an Equality and Diversity one next just for fun. I used to be awful with money at Uni but being unemployed has really helped me with money, like an expert now! There is some positives in the negatives, just hard to find sometimes.0

Which IT one are you specifically doing? I've got a ICT GNVQ but really need to update it as it's been ages since I got it. All the best with your jobsearch.0 -

Wrong mindset.
A Plan B is is fine when you already have something concrete in place. Until then there is no need for a Plan B.0 -
Application form completed and submitted!
Seems like ages since I had to fill one out as I usually get to use my cv + covering letter or conversation with an agency.
Fingers crossed!0
