    Hi All,

I read these forums and this is one of the nicest threads...

I was made redundant in May 2010 and have been looking for jobs ever since...I worked for a month as a temp in dec 2010...i have been for several ( about 7 -8 ) and have been unsuccessful...attended two interviews last 2 weeks and one was a job that i would have loved...both came back today to say that i have been unsuccessful and that I am too qualified and experienced for these jobs...

i have worked for almost 10 years, of which 7 were from the same company.... I have not applied for any sort of benefits or for JSA, as I felt, it was wrong....now I am in real need of money and do not know what to do.....its depressing...how long to wait for a job? how long have others been without a job?? Can i now apply for JSA????

    just feeling let down..
    thnx

Stay strong you will get a job. I have manged to get job which I start this week after looking for work about six weeks.I did get two previous job offers but the boss turn out be a control freak and the other job was not suitable.

I used total jobs and sent off loads of applications and went for interviews. I even went for three interviews for one job that still has not given me any feedback.

I just try to stay postive and believe that someone would give me a job if I keep applying and going to interviews.

Good luck you will get a job very soon.

    Hi!

Im going to join this thread as Im having no luck in finding a job :(

I have recently got my degree but been looking for work for aaaaaaaaaaages now, part time throughout uni and full time since Ive left but really little luck.
Ive worked in the past alongside my studies etc since I was 16 but that seems to count for nothing. There are no jobs in my degree field (to be fair stupid degree) but the government cuts of 20% in the sector and suspended entry into any roles haven't exactly helped matters, now Im lining up competing against hundreds of others for bog standard minimum wage jobs and I seem to be at a total disadvantage as Im too qualified for them!

Had several interviews last week, one for a proper 'career' type job but unfortunatly didn't get it but the boss said I would have happily employed me if he had another job going and another for a job in a call centre, which despite me having 4+ years of customer service experience + sales I still didn't get it.

I live in one of the highest unemployment areas in the UK (so the news says) and I live in a 'city' where absolutely everything is closing down, I don't drive and my only option to get work outside of the area is to get public transport which is making it near impossible for me to find work :(

Oh and I can't claim JSA as my partner earns 'too' much.....

I graduated last year and there is not any jobs in my degree field at the moment. I have managed to get a new job which I start very soon which is my second job since I graduated that has nothing to do with my degree.

I knew as soon as I graduated that I would have to be very diverse when came to jobs that I would accept because of the recession.

I would rather have a job right now than be broke until I can find a job in my degree field.

The agency who were so positive and helpful the last two weeks have now gone deadly quiet :(

Thoroughly fed up, can't afford to pay my bills and just hoping that I get a discretionary housing payment to take some of the pressure off. I've got about £20 to buy food for the next fortnight!

    Thoroughly despondent now.

Good things about being out of work:
    • Was able to take my OH's car to its MOT and collect it - and it passed with flying colours
    • Time to do some volunteering (went better today than it did last week)
    • Time to sit outside in the sunshine (making sure to take my phone with me, just in case...)!
I've only found one position to apply for today, but that's better than none.

Here's hoping for a good week and good news for everyone! :)

Your time frame is quite similar to mine, except I have a bit more work experience behind me. I'm continually being told I'm overqualified and underqualified, it was down to you and someone else, etc. It is very frustrating and scary and has me wondering if I'll ever work again.

As for JSA, yes, go and apply for it. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for housing benefit. The worst they can say is no.

Hey everyone, want your opinions on what you would do in this situation.

As many of you know I am starting Uni in September and have been looking for jobs working with children, preferably in a school.

I have been offered an interview tomorrow as bank staff in a nursery.

I also have a job interview Friday for a an after school club job to work 3 til 6. They will have seen from my application I'm only available 3 days a week and this clearly hasn't put them off.

Come September I will be Uni for one full day a week plus one evening.

There is a local agency who deal with supply for schools in my area that I wanted to join with earlier this year but at the time couldn't afford a CRB. Now I'm getting JSA I could afford one.

Now my plan is that I could sign with the agency in August ready to start for September if any work becomes available. I've emailed to ask if any work is for half days as I'm then thinking if I got the after school job I could potentially fit in both. If I don't get the job I could obviously work full days around uni.

    So would you:

    A. Cancel the nursery interview in favour of joining the agency as it's school based so directly relevant to what my degree will be

    B. Go to the nursery interview even though it's not what I want to do and keep everything crossed I can get work from the agency and hope that Friday works out

Really unsure on this one. Part of me wants to cancel but then part of me thinks is it wise when I've been trying for so long to get work.

I would go to the nursery interview as you cannot count on agencies to give you work.

The nursery job will give up you up to date work to put on your CV.

True but the nursery is only as and when as well so also not guaranteed. I'm just trying to weigh it up as I know that there are lots of schools registered with this agency compared to just relying on one nursery to get me work.

    Hate making decisions :rotfl:
