Still looking... It's really annoying when I apply for loads of jobs and I never get a response.
Can you try emailing/calling any of the companies/agencies and ask directly for feedback? They might respond to a direct enquiry, although it might be negative it might help with future applications.
Good luck.

Is it needed to add a cover letter if your just dropping a cv off in reply to a job
I'd add a cover letter to highlight why you would be the right candidate for the role (and the company) and also use it as an opportunity to add more personality to your application than a cv would portray. It might make you stand out that little bit more!
Good luck

Hello all. I've not been around much this week. My voluntary job employers (Age UK) asked if I could do three days this week so Monday to Wednesday I was there (in the cafe Monday and Tuesday and assisting the tutor with the silver servers class yesterday). The customers are really nice and all said they were lucky to be senior citizens today and were really glad that they weren't 'young people' (I'm 45 so hardly a young person) as it seems so much harder than years ago. As they said when times were hard when they were young everyone was in the same boat so it didn't seem so bad and you could still eat cheaply. I really, really wish they could pay me as I would love to work there.
Then both my sisters asked if I could look after my nephews today (due to the strike) so we've had a great day geocaching (sort of hi-tech treasure hunting for those who don't know and a nearly free hobby that boys (and girls for that matter) seem to love). When the 5 year olds mum came to fetch him he said he's had the best day ever which cheered me up a lot. At least I can do something right.
There's not much news on the job from. I've found two to apply for so far this week and I've got one to do tonight. I've been applying for quite a few jobs in areas that I don't have any experience but so far I've heard nothing from any of them.
Welcome to all the new posters. Its a shame we have to be here but its a great thread and has helped to keep me sane!0 -
If i were to drop a cv off in response to a job is that ok with just the cv and not a cover letter, i was only asked to drop the cv off when i called the other day.0

Do a covering letter - they might not have asked for it but generally it is expected. It is also an opportunity to sell yourself a little bit more - to put some flesh onto the bones of the CV.0 -

Hey everybody...I've not been around much over the last couple of weeks, have been feeling a bit down and it's been a struggle to stay positive, especially this week. I'm now registered with 10 agencies and not one of them has called with any offers of work. I've called a few of them to let them know I'm still looking for work, it's just soul destroying.
I always look forward to Friday as I can write off another week and tell myself that there will be some jobs to apply for next week...fingers crossed right!0 -
Hi helpful people.
I'm hoping I can steal this thread for a moment by asking advice on what an enhanced disclosure means. This is the context:Previous experience as an Administrator is essential. Must be computer literate and have knowledge of Excel and must be competent at data input. Duties to include answering telephone, filing, photocopying, petty cash handling, dealing with visitors to the care home and all related tasks as required. There will be a 3 month probationary period. Successful applicants are required to provide an enhanced disclosure. Disclosure expense will be met by applicant.
I'm fine with everything except the enhanced disclosure. Is it just fancy speak for a CRB check?
Thanks in advance'til the end of the line0 -

An enhanced disclosure is the comprehensive CRB check...it shows up all convictions, I believe, even if they are spent. Although I think it would be discriminatory for them not to offer the job based on spent convictions, I think its more for jobs involving children etc, so it shows all convictions which are relevant.
I hope this makes sense, I'm having a blonde moment!0 -
Well i'm officially gutted.
As you may remember I had a really good first interview last week in which the interviewer really liked me and what I could do for the company. I was offered a second interview for this week but then the interviewer was taken into hospital so everything was put back.
The agency has just phoned and the managing director has taken matters into his own hands, interviewed somebody completely different (from another agency) this morning and then offered them the job. Anybody interviewed last week has just been passed completely over.
I could have done so well with that job and was in with such a good chance of getting the job. I would have put my heart and soul into it, it's their loss I guess, but it's hard not to feel exceptionally bitter about it.
If you compare job hunting to a game of snakes and ladders, I feel that i've just landed on that snake that is on square 99 and drops you right the way back down to square 1.0
