Hello people!
Congrats to anyone who have interviews or job offers since the last time I posted!
Thought I would give a update... As most of you know I got a job offer with the NHS a few weeks ago...
I'm still waiting to start... They are still doing my references (1 to go) and my occupational health thingymabob is in the post... From having a start date of the 4th July, my start date is now looking like I will be starting on the 18th July. Just rang my future employer to ask for 2 weeks off in August (it wasn't prebooked holiday with my current employer), felt bad and awkward asking as normally I would wait to ask when I've started work there, however I knew if I waited I would have no chance as August is really popular (I honestly thought August would be full by now)... But the good news is that she said yes!It took me an hour to gather the courage to ask (me being silly), but now I'm so glad I did.

I'm still in the land of limbo so familiar to those who have interviews these days! A same day/next day at most decision has now turned into nearly a week and I still have no idea what's happening.
It's frustrating because the agency has had two other jobs come in this week they want to put me forward for but obviously won't until they know for sure i am still available.
Best friends 30th on Saturday, have to rely on her charity to even go. So I'm feeling particularly miserable at the moment!0 -
Still looking... It's really annoying when I apply for loads of jobs and I never get a response.Savings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0

Hello all I'm new to this thread but not to the world of unemployment! I've been reading for a few days and thought I would join in.
A bit about me...I qualified as a teacher this time last year but failed to secure a teaching position despite applying since jan last year. So it's been 18 months since I started applying and I still haven't secured a position, although I have had 6 interviews but it's crazy out there at the minute with well over 100 applicants per post.
I've tried to do supply teaching but that is practically non-existant and I've had 6 weeks worth of work in the past year. As a result I've decided that I'm probably going to have to give up on teaching because I can't survive on no money again. I haven't been on JSA because I don't want to put up with being treated like a piece of dirt.
For the past few months I have been applying for all sorts of jobs - retail, office work etc. And haven't even had a thanks but no thanks response from any of them.
However I luckily managed to get an interview for a call centre job in a bank which I passed :jbut I've got to pass the 2nd interview now. The money isn't too bad, well it's better than nothing! It's not ideal, afterall I have accumulated over £25k of debt after 4 years of uni with tuition fees etc which needs paying off.
Sorry for the long story, I've got my fingers crossed for you all. It really is so tough out there, particularly for those who struggle based on being 'over qualified'.0 -
Is it needed to add a cover letter if your just dropping a cv off in reply to a job0
-
I would always add a cover letter, particularly when it is going directly to the employer (agencies generally ignore them).0

I would include a cover letter, if nothing else it shows that you have made a bit of an effort!0

Hello everyone! I'm new to this board!
Currently looking for a full time job as I have just finished up university. I do work part time in a supermarket, and have been recently offered a move to a different dept 20 hours a week. I start next week and hoping to pick up some extra shifts on the checkouts as well to increase my hours.
Have been applying for tourism related jobs as thats what my degree is in, but all the companies I have applied to have stated that you need to know how to use Galileo the booking system to work there. Which is really frustrating because how am I meant to learn how to use it without working in the industry first? I have a feeling I am going to have to start looking at travel consultant apprenticeships, which if I wanted to do that I would have applied when I was 16 and never bothered with university at all!
Anyway, looking forward to chatting with you all seeing everyone progress!0
