If it was the employer I'd chalk it up to another one biting the dust but it's through (so far) a very good agency who have been totally on the ball. I really think this one is down to the employer not having made a decision.

    I will chase tomorrow.

    No phone call

The procrastination of employers these days is ridiculous, don't tell me you'll make a decision Monday at the latest and then not actually bother to, it's so frustrating and depressing to be sat in limbo.

Me too, I was waiting in all afternoon for the call about whether my second interview would be Wednesday or Thursday, that was a waste of time then

Desperate times and desperate measures and all that.............I have just entered a competition to win a job with Very on Facebook!

Now I need to hassle everyone on my Facebook to vote, I'm going to doing a lot of spamming!

It's a proper job though, 1 year contract, £50k salary and something I could totally do and would absolutely love.

3 votes down, 1200 to go to catch up with the leader............my friends are going to HATE me!

    Hi folks

I took voluntary redundancy at the end of March. I'm really surprised at how hard I've found it to get something. I actually start a new job tomorrow, but its only 16 hours a week, so I need to get something else. I'm waiting to hear from Asda about an interview.

    925dancer - I'm happy to vote for you :)

Time to tell a story. Sorry for the long post but i feel its time to highlight something.

My partner qualified as a Teacher in 2010 after having been in 20 or so placements/work experience settings over the past 4 years(lots of networking). The application process for teaching jobs is totally different its very involved huge application forms, visit days, interview days which can last all day etc. She was applying from march 2010 before she had even finished the course, she had an interview at her teaching placement but was turned down because they wanted someone with more experience. The summer rolled on with the odd teaching job interview but now she was getting more anxious and started applying for teaching assistant roles as well as summer play scheme jobs, one of which she volunteered at the previous year but didn't even get an interview for that!

Eventually she got an interview for a learning support job at a school but was turned down because they wanted someone for the whole school year and she was overqualified. She was truly in despair at this time and her confidence shot to pieces. But then in early September she got a call out of the blue for a job at the same school for another learning support job for a boy who had behaviour problems who had just moved into the area. This was actually really great for her because the school was rural and small and the teachers were experienced and a lot of them also were specialists who travelled the county helping other schools, so she picked their brains and learnt a lot. The head at the school was excellent she really helped boost her confidence and provide her with good references for the teaching jobs she was applying for.

In December maternity jobs were being advertised and she caught a break and got a job for Jan-july 2011 because the head teacher had been at a school she had placements at. The setting was perfect because it was dual entry so she was planning lessons alongside a more experienced teacher who could show her the ropes a bit. Better still they get on great and sing from the same sheet. In many ways its a good learning environment for her in her first teaching position.

Now the past few months since just before easter she has again been applying for jobs she had an amazing rate of getting an interview 7 from 11 applications she had an invite to come and interview.

School Hol -Interview at her current school however this was not advertised and only open to in house candidates one of which had been there 10+ years already so naturally its who you know ;)

School Fr - Interview at a school she had an interview at last year, however her friend at her current school got the job, which is fine she did not like the feel of this school and it suited her friend very well. (150 applicants! 6 interviewed)

School St - Interview at a school 5 mins away this job was taken last year by someone from her course on a 1 year contract, they were re-advertising it but the reality was they wanted her permanently, so yup you guessed it internal candidate! (140 applicants, 4 interviewd)

School Ab - Maternity contract at a small school in a lovely rural setting exactly what she wants permanently, she got the job! why? because the head at her current school knew the head at this one so she got an edge over the other candidates which made her stand out. She accepted of course but she also had 3 other interviews later in the week but really this was the job for her anyway. (90 applicants, 4 interviewed)

I guess my point is as stephyt23 has mentioned on the last page Networking is so key to finding a job, so do everything you can to get "known" it really helped my partner get all of her jobs so far! I honestly cant see any of you doing much wrong its simply lack of jobs and a need to improve the way your networking.

Thanks for posting this and congratulations on your partner finding a job. My O/H did get a job without using his network but the loops he had to jump through were daunting. Ironically I was tuped into his company a few months later, no loop jumping required. It was the networking issue that initially made me very scared when I was put at risk of redundancy as I am terrible about keeping in contact (I am learning to get much better at this though)

I would agree with that. After being unemployed for 6 months last year my mum asked one of her friends who has alot of contacts in my industry if she could help me in any way. Although I went onto get a job that didn't involve this friend, I found that people were willing to speak to me, email me, interview me etc. purely on the recommendation of this friend who I've met maybe once or twice.

She got me an interview for a company last year that I didn't get. To be honest, it wasn't really for me, I had virtually no experience for the job but I really wanted to work for the company. Anyway, that same company called me a few weeks ago asking if I'd interview for a position in the area I'm interested and have studied in. I'm still awaiting the outcome of that but I would never have got that call if it hadn't been for my mum's friend last year.

I have decided I am no longer going to listen to those useless BLEEEEPs at the Jobcentre, despite me telling them over and over and over and over again that I have travel restrictions they keep insisting I apply for these jobs that are well outside where I can humanly travel excluding teleportation and I have to apply as they have a nasty habit of secretly "matching" you to jobs. I got asked for an interview to one and I've had to tell them I don't think it's fair to interview me when I couldn't take the job as I can't teleport there! This is second time I have had to turn down an interview because public transport here really blows. I have a 12 week wait for a driving test too! ARGH!
