    Hi helpful people.

I'm hoping I can steal this thread for a moment by asking advice on what an enhanced disclosure means. This is the context:

I'm fine with everything except the enhanced disclosure. Is it just fancy speak for a CRB check?

    Thanks in advance :o

As far as I am aware yes it is a CRB check. There is one which is disclosure scotland which I been asked to do twice even though I am located in England. It is a painless process the basic costing around £27 which I guess would be met by the employers

An enhanced disclosure is the comprehensive CRB check...it shows up all convictions, I believe, even if they are spent. Although I think it would be discriminatory for them not to offer the job based on spent convictions, I think its more for jobs involving children etc, so it shows all convictions which are relevant.

I hope this makes sense, I'm having a blonde moment!

Thank you! :) It's for a care home just around the corner from me so a CRB check makes sense.

    Well i'm officially gutted.

As you may remember I had a really good first interview last week in which the interviewer really liked me and what I could do for the company. I was offered a second interview for this week but then the interviewer was taken into hospital so everything was put back.

The agency has just phoned and the managing director has taken matters into his own hands, interviewed somebody completely different (from another agency) this morning and then offered them the job. Anybody interviewed last week has just been passed completely over.

I could have done so well with that job and was in with such a good chance of getting the job. I would have put my heart and soul into it, it's their loss I guess, but it's hard not to feel exceptionally bitter about it.

If you compare job hunting to a game of snakes and ladders, I feel that i've just landed on that snake that is on square 99 and drops you right the way back down to square 1.

That is really annoying, but unfortunately not unusual. My o/h went for a job once, got through all the interviews only for the interviewer's boss to decide that he required a totally new skillset not being advertised.

Just need to practicse some questions especially a good weakness to have as the ones ive given in the past well i think they may not have done me much good. Its only part time but ill take whatever hours/days i can, as long i can get off jsa then ill be fine.

Sorry to hear your bad news, but when you get down to the bottom of the board there's always the chance to go up the REALLY big ladder! ;)

Good luck and fingers crossed for the future.

Good luck for your interview DCFC79!

Best wishes for a good weekend to everyone.

Hello all I'm new to this thread but not to the world of unemployment! I've been reading for a few days and thought I would join in.

A bit about me...I qualified as a teacher this time last year but failed to secure a teaching position despite applying since jan last year. So it's been 18 months since I started applying and I still haven't secured a position, although I have had 6 interviews but it's crazy out there at the minute with well over 100 applicants per post.

I've tried to do supply teaching but that is practically non-existant and I've had 6 weeks worth of work in the past year. As a result I've decided that I'm probably going to have to give up on teaching because I can't survive on no money again. I haven't been on JSA because I don't want to put up with being treated like a piece of dirt.

Don't give up!! A couple of friends of mine tried for 2 years after they graduated before landing a job. Are there any other agencies you could try with? For my area Protocol is the biggest agency since the local council stopped recruiting people. The one friend of mine regularly got work through them either as a teacher or a TA.

I'm just about to start my teacher training after moving from one uni where I wasn't learning enough to a new one in September. I've been trying since Jan to get any kind of job working with children and also looking at retail but not got anything as yet. I'm planning to sign up with protocol in September if I'm still unemployed.

Stew, sorry to hear you didn't get the job - but something bigger and better is round the corner.

I got a verbal job offer on Monday, and got all the details in writing today, subject to references. I'm supposed to start a week on Monday which I was fine with, until I got an email this evening inviting me to another interview the day after I'm due to start the new job.

The job I've got is a fixed term contract until the end of March. The job I've got the interview for is also a fixed term contract, but till the end of May. It also pays £3k more per annum and is overall a better job. However it's a much smaller organisation so I'm not sure if anything permanent might come up - I think there would be a better chance in that regard in the place I've got the offer from.

I'm wondering if I could get away with asking the people I've got the offer from if I could start working a week later - do you think that would be OK? Alternatively I could tell a white lie and ask for the day off, but I'm a bit reluctant to do that - as I think asking for the day off on your second day is pushing it a bit! The interview is in a different town to where the new job is, so I couldn't even work it around my lunch hour and it's at 1145, so I couldn't even get away with asking for a half day.

The only possible saving grace is that the offer letter says that if there's a delay in getting references I may have to start a week later. I'm now hoping that'll be the case, much as I need to be earning pronto!:rotfl:

Of course I may not get the job I've been invited to interview for, but I really feel I've got to make the effort to go to the interview. What do you advise I do? All advice gratefully received!

You could say it was something that was already booked and would they allow you the day off for it. I'm starting a new job on Monday and asked for three days off for a long weekend the following week for a holiday (festival) that I'd already booked. They were fine with it. They do usually honour days already booked away.

Oh no Stew, I'm so sorry to hear that. Hopefully you will get something better soon and (although it's not perfect) at least you still have the job that you are doing now! Keep positive!
