Following firms i will never apply for jobs at again as clearly i dont have what it takes to be an employer for them:
Maplins
Waitrose
Applied for a job at waitrose earlier and 10 minutes later i get a reply saying i didnt make the shortlist which boggles the mind.
Ha ! Maplins advertised in my area, So i went to the store, And was told they aren't advertising by a huge sweaty beast of a manager ! Hmmmm............' You only live once ! Don't live to regret the past, But to enjoy the future '

UBER RANT TIME!
So I got this interview, well happy about it for a job in my town and have just got the interview details and they are holding the interview in a Holiday Inn about an hour away (by car), I can't get there for 9.30 in the morning or if I go for the 2:00-17:30 slot I can't actually get home, you don't get to pick a specific time just a slot so I now have had to tell them I can't go to the interview as I can't actually get there, would be 3 buses to get there etc, how annoying.0 -

Are you applying for anything else other than those two roles? As far as jobcentre support goes, you'll get one or two (in 20) who know what they're talking about and the rest are just...well...there. I'd advise you get your CV checked over by a local employment provider (should be free for you), see what they say. Some are useful.0 -
Miss_Scrooge wrote: »I've just had my CV looked at at the Job centre today. The amount of !!!!!!!! these people come out with is unbelievable.
So first off the advisor had to criticise my use of colour. Why couldn't I use colour, I asked. She said because when employers print my CV off, it won't be in colour. Uhh, so what? When they view my CV on their computer, it will be in colour, or do these people use black and white monitors now? I then held my CV up in one hand, her dull and generic CV template she had given me in the other and asked her, if you were an employer, which CV would catch your eye first? She pointed to mine. Job done. I made my point.
Then she continued to nitpick the alignment of some of my information. According to the laws of CV writing (and these are very strict btw!), your contact details MUST be centred at the top of the page and ONLY on the front page. Mine were at the top, they were just aligned to the left and the main content flowed down to the right, and my CV finished on the second page with a recap of my email and tel. number at the bottom. Apparently this is all wrong!
In my employment history, dates MUST be to the right (I had mine to the left. Oops, silly me - how could I have made such a vital error!)
After all this I pointed out to her, that as I'm applying to web and graphic design agencies, these employers would turn down and laugh at any applicant that was not demonstrating and making good use of their creative license in their CV. She didn't get that.
Now she's gonna send me an "action plan" in the mail. Oh goody!
This is just more evidence that these people are just mindless drones and don't actually have any creativity or capability of thinking outside the box. :rotfl:0 -
On my CV I have them down the left in a column kind of thing, to get some more white space on my CV. I think mine looks really cool but doesn't conform to CV standards either it seems lol. Argh, I'm so annoyed about this interview thing, didn't really want the job at all anyways so not a big devastation just a bit annoying really.0

I think that given the economy any conventional 'rules' of CV writing go out of the window. As long as the information is clearly, and cleanly, presented with good English you should be OK.
If you are getting hundreds of CV's then it is the one's that look a little different that will catch the eye. Sad fact is most of the clones are unlikely be read in much detail.0 -
Well after having a lovely day in school I've come home to a letter to say I didn't get the Holiday Club Leader job I had an interview for last week. I'm really disappointed. I thought I'd come across really well. I didn't even apply for that position I'd applied for a different one but they called and said would I have an interview for this one instead.
It was to run the holiday club but then also be on bank staff from September in the nursery to fit around uni, which was their suggestion and I said it sounded great. They were also keen on the fact my degree will be 4 years so they'd have me around for that long as they said they normally have to interview every year for this position.
I just don't get it! Where do I keep going wrong? I have an interview at Accessorize tomorrow but it's only to last until end of August. I don't get my hopes up about anything anymore.
Sorry, just utterly fed up and disappointed:(:(

I am sorry to hear that Steph. Good luck in your Accessorize interview tomorrow.
I had my Sainsburys interview this morning where I felt confident enough to answer all the questions and was able to give a few examples. We had a test afterwards which was a bit scary for me but I feel like I was able to answer all the mathematical word problems e.g. If there are ten flowers in a bunch, how many are there in five bunches? lol. I will apparently get a phone call tomorrow.
I went to sign on and the advisor was nice enough. She looked at my C.V and said that I could explain my jobs a bit more. Fair enough really. My C.V did seem too "wordy" so will need to change it for the next appointment. I have about 3 jobs to apply for for the next appointment and the 3 jobs to finish applying for by tomorrow. I will receive a letter with what I will get in the next two days or two weeks.

Yeah I'm really fed up today as well. I love my voluntary work and I'm happy there and as soon as I get home and on the job search/application stuff I'm miserable lol. Think I'm going to write today off and get into bed!0
