I would also try Freecycle, someone was giving away some Computer Science books near me so you never know. Especially if you live near a Uni. Another good place is at your local library in the books for sale section if the books get too tatty or a slightly newer edition comes out they usually stick them in there, might be lucky.

Finished my second assignment, halfway through course now woot. Looking into doing another one already lol.

Fed up, work is going well. However the screening company phoned today to tell me it'll now be another 6 weeks before I know if I get my perm job because they have to contact the benefit offices I've been to in the last 6 years to confirm when I have been unemployed.

Will they keep you in employment for the next six weeks while they confirm everything? Surely they'll see what a good worker you are in that time, that should be worth more than a few bits of paper.

I have no idea, I've asked them so I'm just waiting to hear back. You'd think so but they seem to rely on this screening process a lot :(

Hope it all works out okay for you in the end.
  • Yet another trudge to the Jobcentreplus to sign on after another two weeks of disappointments and looking at the same old vacancies.

Does anybody else feel a relief when you get out of that place?

Fed up of my endless holiday now.:(

I am through to the next interview but there was a criticism that concerns me, i.e., I have a quiet personality. I need to work out I how to best tackle it at the next meeting without acting out of character.

Any suggestions? changing into a naturally loud person is unfortunately beyond my capabilities unless I enlist the help of vast amounts of alcohol

I'm the same, but it's good that they've mentioned it so you have the opportunity to address it. They could just be worried that you'll sit in the corner, keeping yourself to yourself, whereas they want more of a team player.
Can you give any examples of times you have made suggestions for improvement, changed a process or anything that suggests you like to get involved with the team?

I've just had a telephone interview confirmed! Never had one before..... are these any easier or worse than face to face interviews? Slightly nervous......

Many thanks for this. You have made my brain start churning and yes I can think of examples, I just need to demostrate this at the next interview :D
