Steph at our local university bookshop they have a section selling used text books that students had from the previous year. I found this particularly useful as they are so much cheaper then buying them new.
Welcome to all the new people, good luck with your job searching!
Drea how was your first day?
Thanks Livermum I'll look into that as wellI had hoped this uni would use the same books as my old one but there's only 2 books that are the same. My brother suggested I sell mine to help pay for new ones but knowing my luck I'll need them again over the next 4 years so think I'd best keep hold of them

Not bad, been doing the same as I did when I went there temp but tomorrow will start to do another job too. Been told from HR that my "issues" were more extensive than they first thought so they need to think about the next step.... which doesn't sound hopeful to me but just have to wait and see I guess.Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Productive day today. Have a phone interview lined up for tomorrow, a couple of potential leads being explored and the possibility of taking a job with present company, (would mean staying away from home but worth a trial period to see if I can hack it).
Best of all the phone was ringing, made a pleasant change. Also managed a cycle ride in the afternoon:cool:
If only all the days were like this, sigh0 -

Can I ask what you've said about going to uni in September to the job centre? Do they know and do they accept that it has an impact on the types of jobs you're looking for i.e. part time/ temporary etc? I told the guy in the Welsh job centre to ask if I was eligible and he said yes but I'm nervous about what to say at my interview in the English job centre tomorrow. I assume it's best to be up front as realistically I don't want a permanent full time job so won't be applying for them. I'm available to work full time but only til the end of Sept then if I'm still claiming by then I'll sign off.

As a general rule you need to be available for 40 hours a week to qualify for JSA. The exception is if you have an underlyingn health problem or caring responsibilites. You may explain to them that you are going to uni in September. That's fine but until then you should ideally be looking for FT temp work. Full time is anything over 16 hours.0 -
Steph, if you are doing an Education or Teaching course, I have some textbooks left over from my degree that I haven't yet sold on Ebay

Thanks. I haven't worked FT for 18 months. I was off sick with depression for 6 months, went back PT and then we were all made redundant. Since then I've been studying. I think I'm well enough to work FT but would prefer not to work 40 hours. I could definitely manage at least 25 hours as I did that in April. Technically I am currently available for 40 hours. I'll explain it all tomorrow and see what they say.
As long as they realise that I can't commit to anything permanent then that's fine.December 2010 wins - 12 month Four Four Two subscription; Alcatel OT 708 phone; Miffy cuddly toy; Nivea gift pack0 -
Well, three jobs with my specific property experience advertised over the last few days, all applied for, fingers crossed! At least I still have my Amazon assessment in mid July to keep me going in the meantime.
Stephy, try Amazon for books, loads of second hand sellers, I got an amazing book for about £10 that's usually about £30-40 for my course off there.0 -
Evening all,
I've just realised that I haven't told you the outcome of the interview I had last Thursday, well I didn't get it but with the distance and the low wages I wasn't that upset.
I do have another interview lined up now for Friday morning for a job that is quite similar to what I was doing before I was made redundant last year, it's a permanent job and the wages aren't bad so i'm really going to go all out for this one.
Welcome to the new arrivals, I hope you find the support here that you need, we are all really very friendly and supportive.
Hope for some more good news for people this week.0 -
Hey,
I fully expected to already find a thread like this here and wanted to join in but haven't seemed to find one (if I'm wrong please let me know).
There are debt free diaries, there's a big daily OS thread, why not have one for those of us looking for work? It can be demoralising and I figure it might help to keep us going.
I've only been looking a couple days but so far have joined a couple of agencies (not that I hold out much hope with them), applied for around 15 jobs and even had my first proper interview this morning! I think it went well and I hope to get the job, it sounded perfect for me.
Now I'm sat here half way through an online application form not quite finding the motivation to finish it... I'll get there :rotfl:
