Good luck Sharon, working from home for me was never an option. My job seeking day very rarely started til 10.30am at the earliest. Lol

Glad (but sad) to know I'm not alone. Job hunting is such hard work. Have applied for around 250 roles (I do contract project management work) since March and not had a single interview. I've exploited all my personal contacts, loaded my CV to approopriate websites, follow-up with those dreaded recruitment agencies on a regular basis. And still nothing. I'm not registered as unemployed (because I work through my own limited company so am still paying away my PAYE to HMRC). I'm sure there are plenty of others like me who aren't included in any official government stats. It's tough to keep going. At the start of each day I feel full of hope and enthusiasm. By the end I feel exhausted - even if I haven't received a single phone call! How do others keep themselves motivated?

I think the answer is to distract yourself with another activity, take a break and not spend all your working (non working?) hours job hunting. If the distraction is something that you can bring up if you called for an interview so much the better.

Have you any project managment ISEB qualifications via the British Computer Society? The foundation would probably require the purchase of a book and sitting a public exam. Mine has worked out at around £150 and again is something I can mention in interviews. It also brings me up to speed with the latest trends and buzzwords

 wow that's a lot! I've had 6 so far

I'm obviously rubbish in interviews :o
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.
  • Just back from my voluntary work which is the only thing that keeps me sane. I love Wednesdays and Thursdays!!!

Picked up the local paper on the way home as its jobs day and there are three jobs for me to apply. This must be a record for the local paper as most of the time there are none that are applicable to me.

One of them is a handwritten application form. Does anyone else hate having to write applications? I can touch type and it is so much quicker for me to type, I make less mistakes and my hand doesn't ache afterwards!

Good luck to everyone with interviews and congratulations to those with new jobs.

I understand unemployment numbers are down so things must be looking up;)

I started out looking for jobs virtually every hour of the day but it was really getting me down an I actually think I was heading for depression so now I spend around a hour looking after breakfast and then another hour looking late afternoon (about now). Saturdays and Sundays I found that hardly any jobs are posted so I hardly look at all - perhaps just an hour in the evening. The rest of the time is mine to do what I want with.

The only way to keep going, I think, is to keep as busy as you can. I do two days voluntary work a week, have got my very old bike roadworthy and go out on that (I'm luckly as I live near lots of country lanes and cycle tracks and fresh air always makes me feel better) and as I have mentioned before I have become a fitness freak for the first time in my life and am addicted to Wii fit and do at least an hour on that a day (might not be everyone's cup of tea!)

I wouldn't look at it like that, those ones you didn't get just obviously wasn't meant to be :D

My voluntary work keeps me sane too. I'm back in tomorrow and Friday.

I'm handwriting an application form now, I do it in stages, a page at a time with a break in between for a few mins as it makes my hand ache :rotfl:

Just come back from my face to face interview. Quite a milestone as it was only my second external face to face interview in 20 odd years (and the first one was for a career change). Absolutely exhausted now. There were a few learning points that I will work on for next time (not going to beat myself up over those points) but really glad that I didn't make an idiot of myself.

Am taking the rest of today off to recover:o

Thankfully these days all my job apps are online. Takes 20 seconds or so whcih is how I've managed to clock up 250! But I agree about the courtesy aspect - if we've taken the trouble to apply (and are not time-wasters i.e. we have the skill & experience to do the job) then a simple one line email to say "thanks but not this time" wouldn't go amiss. Recruitment agencies are the bain of my life!

I'm wondering if that's the reason you're getting little response.

I applied for 3 or 4 jobs a few weeks ago. I spent time writing a covering letter, letting them know why I wanted the job and what I could bring to the company.

2 weeks later, I have a long-term temp job, and 2 more interviews lined up.
