Good Luck Stew let us all know how it goes! My contract finally came through which I'm really pleased about.
I always spend longer tailoring a cover letter if it was going directly to an employer than if it was going through an agency (they seem to be more likely to read it!)0 -
Well out of the four interviews I went to last week, I've now been notified that I was unsuccessful on 3. I have a second interview for the other one tomorrow. I really hope I get it as I've only been in my new job for 3 days but I'm already desperate to leave. It's not that I don't like the job, but the hours are anything between 7am and 10pm 7 days a week, and I like having a life and being able to make plans without worrying about my shifts! I don't mind it temporarily, but I couldn't cope with it long-term and I'm more determined to get this job tomorrow! I've already got a dilemma about next weekend, as I can't work due to my best friend's wedding, but they won't give me answer as to whether I can have it off or not! Well it's not really so much of a dilemma, I've already decided that I'll quit if they won't let me go, but I really don't want to be put in that position!0

Thanks guys for the feedback. I do the covering letter bit too - make sure I personalise for each role & match my skills to the job / say what I can bring to the role etc. The main site I use (Jobserve) lets you store your CVs & covering letters. However I have heard directly from agencies that they ignore the covering letters anyway! I'm going to keep plugging away as something will come up eventually. Just wish the rain would stop so I could go for a nice long walk!
I was the same but after getting a lot of rejections (or no responses) I sent it all off for a review. The feedback was pretty generic and basic but after taking it on board, I re-wrote the whole cv and cover letter and started to get a much more positive response!
I've heard a lot of the time they don't even bother to read your CV (never mind cover letter), if they look at it and it looks too wordy or too long, it gets shoved in the bin. I figured some faceless person on the other end of a computer would give me an objective opinion...0 -
I own two shirts, one of which I wore to my interview last week. I've just tried the second one on for my second interview tomorrow and it's miles too big! Gonna have to pop to a late opening H & M tonight to buy a new one! Really want to relax tonight as well!0

Who did the review of your cv and cover letter?0 -
So, I got my paperwork I'm to fill in for my new job. Turns out they do quite the rigorous checking with checking all employers in last 5 years, all education, etc. And... a credit check. I asked the agency about credit checks when they told me about all the checks they do and was told "it's fine". I didn't think to question it any further because to be honest I didn't think they'd do a credit check either for what is basically a data entry job. I will not pass any credit check and I have a CCJ, I just have to cross my fingers and hope that they'll still let me have the job. I have rejected another job for this and I'm just quite upset about it.
Please for once let me have a bit of luck!Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
Evening all,
Thanks for the good wishes, interview went well, two other candidates up for the role and they should be making a decision tomorrow about it. An intersting job just not that well paid unfortunately. I'll let you know tomorrow what the outcome is.
Drea, I hope a CCJ won't count against you, I think I know who you might be working for and i'm sure a CCJ won't be a problem, as long as you're not completely in debt and owing thousands and thousands of pounds you might be okay. I'm not an expert on this though. Sending you good vibes for a positive outcome.
Stay strong all.0 -
Drea, really hope it works out for you. Could you not contact the company and explain before they do the check?
I got a start date for my temp job, Monday. Just been asked if I can start tomorrow though because one of the girls needs the day off last minute. Just waiting for the okay from the manager. Signed off today too and they were really pleased for me, probably more happy for themselves and been closer to meeting their targets.0 -

I sent them an email back asking if the credit check affects my job offer (it is a general form for everyone who works there so may well not count for me) so will see what they say. If it does I'll ring them and explain a bit more about the circumstances. I just have to hope for the best now.
I hope you get on okay in work tomorrowsomeone has to have better luck than me!

I am preparing for a competency based interview that I have tomorrow for a graduate role. I hope that they are not too tough on me.0
