I got the job and start on Monday pays more than other job that I was offered so I am going to go with this one. I am in a very good position I have had two job offers in one week and just had someone else invite me to interview that I had to turn down.

I had a lovely letter this week advising me that the short listing process was taking longer than expected and so they will contact me in a fortnight to let me know whether I have got through to the next stage or not. They got my name right at the top of the letter, but not in the body. Go figure?

I've not found anything to apply for this week but have started a part time temp job for the council, hopefully won't distract me too much from the job search.

Also have one more interview this week. Then who knows?
Still working on what my weaknesses are - can I say chocolate or is that too corny? ;)

What do people do for interview prep - practise questions, competencies, research company on internet - what else is there I/we can do?

I haven't heard from any of the agencies I'm signed up with recently either, seems to have gone a bit quiet again around here.

Oh well, who knows what's around the corner in the wacky world of job hunting?

    Good luck to everyone,
    TGWTARN

PS Congrats to hello2007 as well! :T

Hi all, I am new to this thread, but what a fab idea!

I got two rejection letters the other day, I mean two?! I can handle one a day... :o

I have just applied for two more jobs so fingers crossed I hear something back!

Has anyone got any tips on where to look for jobs, I browse Direct Gov, Local Paper, Look out for signs in shop windows and use Fish4Jobs and alike. I also go on the company's website to see if there any up coming stores/vacancies etc.

    Any ideas?[/QUOTE

Total jobs is very good I managed to get two job offers from using that website this week and found my previous job through Total Jobs as well.

Yep, that's pretty much what I do. Depending on what job you're going for you could research the area in general eg in higher education jobs, you tend to get asked about issues affecting higher education, not just about that particular institution.

I like to write down questions I am likely to be asked, then jot down a number of points I could mention (I like to do it as a spider diagram, rather than writing out a passage). I go over all the usuals:

Tell me about yourself (This one is always worth preparing, as I never know where to start if I've not thought about it before)
Why do you want the job? or Why did you apply?
    What are your strengths/ weaknesses?
What major challenges do you think you might face in the role?
What skills/ experience would you bring to the role?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Why should we choose you over other candidates?
    Do you have any questions?

Go over the job description and think of examples of times when you have performed similar duties. Also go over person specification and think of examples of how you have demonstrated each of the criteria. Focus your preparation around the personal specification so that these are the things you will mention throughout the interview.

I have found part-time work at a large well known retail store as store assistant. It's only 8 hours per week contract at the moment but anything will do me. It will be mostly at weekends but they told me I will most likely be asked to do more hours.

I already have a day job but we only just make ends meet every month. So a couple of months ago I went looking for parttime retail jobs, gave out lots of CVs and filled application forms. Last week one of them called me, interview next day and the day after they called to offer me a contract.

So I just wanted to say that it IS possible to find part-time work if you look hard enough. Good luck.

I REALLY don't want to get my hopes up but my luck may FINALLY be changing.

Just had a call from someone wanting me to work Thursdays at their Kumon study centre from September. It's only for 2 hours a week but hey it's better than nothing!

Also just had a call from a Nursery i applied for a position at. They can't interview for me for the post I applied for as I can't work Mondays due to uni but they want to interview me as a Holiday Club Leader for the summer!! I've explained I've got to do jury service starting the 18th july and she said don't worry we can work around that.

    Fingers crossed!
