Just got a lovely cheque through the post for repayment of income tax from the last couple of tax years. Feel a bit happy right now, that the money will go towards sitting ACA exams and maybe a mini treat. I've been feeling so down over the last couple of weeks, so this is a temporary 'Yay' the amount is so needed right now.

I'm sure both myself and my husband should be entitled to some tax back - I worked less than three months and claimed JSA for six months last year and hubby worked less than four months and got six months JSA but he was taxed at the higher rate, and he was taxed on some of his redundancy money (also at the higher rate).

How do you go about getting it back?

    Hi all
This week has been a good week for me too - applied for a job on Saturday morning and had an interview for it yesterday! Felt right and that I'd done a good interview but you never know. Had a phone call earlier in the week for another job that I'd applied for ages ago (that slow decision making thing happening again) and have an interview for that next week. Had a few calls from recruitment agencies this week as well so maybe, just maybe, things are looking up.
Hope everyone else has good luck this week!

Hi all, I am new to this thread, but what a fab idea!

I got two rejection letters the other day, I mean two?! I can handle one a day... :o

I have just applied for two more jobs so fingers crossed I hear something back!

Has anyone got any tips on where to look for jobs, I browse Direct Gov, Local Paper, Look out for signs in shop windows and use Fish4Jobs and alike. I also go on the company's website to see if there any up coming stores/vacancies etc.

    Any ideas?

I have just worked out that if I keep up with all my essential bills I can't afford to eat. Brilliant. So I'm extremely despondent now, no idea what to do or where to cut back. It's the £50 gap between housing benefit and my actual rent that's causing the issue but I can't not pay my rent!

So having a totally rubbish day.

I was called on Monday and offered an interview for today for a hotel receptionist job. Last night I was called at 8.45pm to say that my interview was to be rescheduled (but no date offered).

I have called the hotel twice today and nobody seems to know what is going on. I was told that they haven't started interviewing yet so it doesn't look like they have found someone and were looking to cancel other applicants.

I hope I haven't P****ed any body off if I seemed too keen.

    :([/QUOTE]

I called the hotel again this morning to be told the vacancy was filled.

Seems to me they had a late applicant (who was ideal) after the interviews were arranged!!

    Another one bites the dust.

That's just rubbish isn't it. I hate it when that happens. It's probably 'a friend of a friend' who got the job.

    Onwards and upwards! :)

This was the first time I've applied for a tax refund, so don't know if this is this is the correct process... but got there in the end.

I was not claiming JSA when I submitted my claimed so I sent to my tax office

    - letter stating I have not received any income tax repayment which I estimate is due
    - P45 from my last contract,
    - and Statement of Earnings from the contract I did in 2009/10 ( as I lost my P45)
    - and completed P50 form

    Here's some info:
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/stop-work-refund.htm
    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/pdfs/p50.pdf

You should contact your job centre first to calculate any income tax refunds it might be quicker.

    To quote myself

I have an update. A letter from the hotel has just dropped on my mat. It says that my application was unsuccessful blah blah.

    Sorry to hear that :(

I've officially given up on ever hearing back from BHS or Next, I clearly haven't got the job to be taking this long. I'm just so annoyed they still never had the decency to call.

Still nothing new for me to apply for either.
