I've never been asked anything like that before. It seems like a really odd question. If I had been asked anything like that I'd just assume I wouldn't be getting the job as I am overweight and I couldn't see a company who seemingly places so much on appearance wanting to employ an overweight person as I wouldn't have the right 'image'.

How could you answer that apart from saying you make sure you always have your lippy on!? :rotfl:

That's basically what I said - that I look in the mirror, keep make-up in my bag and make sure my skirt isn't too short!

And that you haven't got pasty crumbs down your shirt!! :rotfl:

I'm reading James Caan's book (Get the Job You Really Want) at the moment, and I stopped the chapter about persevering after rejections, ready to read it at the end of my week of interviews. Hopefully will have some good advice there!

Please let me know what you think of the book, once you have read it

    Hi you lot,

I've been away for a few days and am trying to catch up with this thread. Seems there have been a few developments - well done to all of you who have got jobs and interviews while I was gone!

I had a nice break with my family up north. they bought me my coach ticket so I could come up and see them and I had a great time catching up with them all. Then Saturday night I went to see Take That in Manchester with my mum, sister and our friend (the tickets were our Christmas present from our parents) and that was an incredible night! The show was fantastic. Plus, Pet Shop Boys were the support act and they were worth the ticket price by themselves.

Well, came home last night and back to earth with a bump today. I got a letter saying my JSA was being reviewed as it seems I left my last job voluntarily. (I did and didn't - I was on a 3-month temp-to-perm trial and it was obvious early on that it wasn't working out. Nasty colleagues, ever-changing-goalposts, work being sabotaged, it was a nightmare, so coming up to the end I asked to leave early and had a couple of interviews scheduled for the following week and thought something would come of them, but it didn't. So surely me leaving 2 weeks early shouldn't have made a difference as I wasn't going to be kept on anyway?)

I don't know what I'm going to do. I've been desperately trying to get work for the last 2 months but had nothing. My savings have run out. My Housing Benefit pays half of my rent and with that and JSA I have about £20 a week left to live on. I can't see any way out. I literally can't afford to live!

I've applied for over 20 jobs today and the next few days I'm going to go round every pub and shop in town to see if they need staff even for a couple of hours a week. I really hope something comes of it, if not who knows what next? I haven't a clue how I'm going to cope, I can't think straight.

Truly ironic that I don't even want to be on benefits, I want to earn.
Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.

If I do but haven't had correspondence from them before it's Mr or Ms. If I have had an email/phone call/etc with them then I use the first name.

ok so if i have the persons full name from the job ad would i put Ms Anderson or Ms first name surname, im guessing its Ms Anderson

    thanks,

Hey, I also got a letter from JC saying I left my job voluntary. I was similar in that it was temp and only lasted 2/3 weeks after I left anyway. But I was also putting up with verbal sexual harassment from a colleague and have sent the investigation paperwork to the JC, surely it's a good enough reason to have left!

I now have a job starting Monday so it doesn't bother me if they stop it but I'm worried they'll ask for it all back! Sorry... I haven't put your mind at rest at all :o

Yep I'd say Ms Anderson but either would be right.

Thanks! I haven't booked my test yet, I just don't feel confident enough that I will pass it yet. I'm hoping to have it booked in about 3 weeks or so especially now that I can afford an extra few lessons!

Saturnalia I understand exactly how you are feeling. I had run out of savings too and was getting pretty desperate. Hopefully something will come up for you soon. I do think that its a good idea to go around local businesses to see if they have any work, who knows you may just be in the right place at the right time!
