I have just got back from my second "favourable" interview with the site manager, and I have been offered the job! :j I'm so pleased as the hours are perfect to fit in around my daughter, and the location is good too (and will be even better once I have passed my driving test!), so now I just have to wait for HR to sort out the details of my contract and will hopefully be starting early next week!
I'm still going to come onto this thread and check on how you all are doing, and I just wanted to say thank you all so much for all the support that you have offered.
Well done, really pleased for you and it is great that it can fit around your daughter's needs as well:T0 -

Congratulations! I'm really pleased you found something
Looks like there's a bit of good luck around this week....Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
I had a email about a job that I apply for and they want to see me so finger cross because its full time and the money is not bad.0

Just got the thanks but no thanks email from my interview last week. So that's that.
I also have done a rough tally of applications I've made in the last 3 months, about 80
Depressing times!0 -
Just been invited to a second interview so am pleased, especially as I thought I was being light and fluffy at the end of the first interview. I look forward to the challenge:j
One thing I found in the phone interview this morning was that my hand holding the phone started to shake midway through. Anyone else experienced this?0 -
Congratulations Livermum, maybe the Job Fairy is right there are jobs out there!!!
I have been lurking for a while, can I join in?
Why does the programme always portray people on benefits?
What about people like me who don't claim anything (I have a husband who earns a reasonable salary and no children living at home) We have no savings, we just about manage on his wage.
I was called on Monday and offered an interview for today for a hotel receptionist job. Last night I was called at 8.45pm to say that my interview was to be rescheduled (but no date offered).
I have called the hotel twice today and nobody seems to know what is going on. I was told that they haven't started interviewing yet so it doesn't look like they have found someone and were looking to cancel other applicants.
I hope I haven't P****ed any body off if I seemed too keen.0 -
Hi Jill36,
I'm sure you haven't peed anyone off by being too keen - it's probably genuine and they will be rescheduling (either that or they have pulled the job for the time being, this happens all too often nowadays as well, unfortunately).
We aren't on benefits either, even though neither of us has a job. My husband got a decent redundancy package so we're not entitled to anything.
Just found out my husband has got a meeting with someone tomorrow (not an interview, more of a chat) about a possible job in the industry he used to work in which he wanted to get away from and a good couple of rungs lower on the ladder than where he was but beggars can't be choosers! I have pointed out to him that it would be a piece of cake though, he'd be able to do it with his eyes shut and the commute would be a doddle. You have to look at the positives! There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -
3 interviews down, just one to go. I'm giving myself tonight off, then will spend all of tomorrow preparing for the one on Friday (as well as hounding the Jobcentre again about my JSA).
The one today went ok I think. If I am successful, I will be invited to a second interview (although technically it will be the third as I already a phone interview). The recruitment process seems a bit elaborate for a p/t receptionist position.
The one question I got a bit stuck on was 'What do you do to maintain your appearance at work?' (or something along those lines) I've never been asked anything like this before, and it took me by surprise as I think it says a lot about the company that they place value on appearance. Has any one else been asked anything like that before?
For the first time, I felt like I had actually prepared some good questions to ask them. One was about their involvement in charity, as on their website it says they are involved in charities, but only states specific examples in different cities, so I asked what they were involved in around Birmingham (where I live). I thought that showed that I was interested in really getting involved with the company, not just in showing up to do the job.
However this afternoon I got a rejection e-mail from my interview on Monday. This was the job I wanted the most, so I am pretty disappointed. It said 'the interview panel were impressed by your application and would like to encourage you to consider applying for other posts at the University in the future' which at least is better than the usual rejection letter.
I'm reading James Caan's book (Get the Job You Really Want) at the moment, and I stopped the chapter about persevering after rejections, ready to read it at the end of my week of interviews. Hopefully will have some good advice there!0 -

I've never been asked anything like that before. It seems like a really odd question. If I had been asked anything like that I'd just assume I wouldn't be getting the job as I am overweight and I couldn't see a company who seemingly places so much on appearance wanting to employ an overweight person as I wouldn't have the right 'image'.
How could you answer that apart from saying you make sure you always have your lippy on!? :rotfl:There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0
