Hello everyone, haven't had time to keep up with the thread :(

The jitters I am experiencing in my new job are unexpected in all ways. The tidal wave of destroyed confidence I felt after three days was a knockover, a tidal wave of unjustified thoughts, things I haven't done, things I would never do.

I miss my recruiters, I miss looking, I miss the sheer opportunity of job seeking, the what next.

I have aced it, friends who look at my still in disbelief, "you?" It's just a mid management job at a corporate dear!

I lucked out, right place, right time, please don't forget that, it took a year of hard work to luck out. I failed upwards.

    Work critique:
Todays outfit: horrifically exclusive skinny blue jeans got from charity shop (Gap test version), pink proper work shirt (complicated designer version, can look pyjamaish), cheap throw on grey blazer: FAIL
Handover process: They don't know and nor do I = land grab
Ability to not run away screaming: Questionable

    Much love.

BTW, I made a big effort to go to my nice advisor at the JC and thank him. He was thrilled.

Well I suddenly remembered Amazon are opening up a massive call centre in Edinburgh soon so hopped onto their site and applied for 3 different vacancies.

I tell you what though, they're going to pay their call centre staff extremely well!

well my appointment at the jc today was a mixed bag.

I found a job at our nearest asda but the hours were a bit ambiguous on the ad (days/evening) I haven't really got childcare for evenings but could probably wing it with help from a couple of friends and my IL's as long as it's early evening and not past 8 a few nights a week. I emailed them to ask for for more info about the hours but got no reply, the advisor had a direct number to contact asda and was able to speak to them for me. The evening includes later than 8pm but that isn't even the biggest problem....the buses to and from the local asda to where I live end at 6pm so if I had to work past that time I'd have to get a taxi home. The taxi would cost about £18 for just over 5 miles .

He also did a "new" intensive job search for me (apparently all the systems are changing which is why I couldn't see him last time I was supposed to because it was mid change) and he reassured me I'd already done everything I could and I haven't missed anything, which was nice in one way because it made me feel slightly less of a slacker but depressed me because it's confirmed there is sod all out there at the moment :(

I have now been referred back to the lone parent advisor, which IMO is great. She's really really helpful, doesn't beat about the bush but doesn't try and push you into things that she knows aren't suitable either.

    So yeah mixed mixed bag.

I also go the huge impression that the advisors ARE NOT happy about the new systems and changes. It seems to envolve much much more work for them and less time to actually help people. I was seen 20 mins later than my appointment simply because the advisor couldn't close the last persons file without answering loads of "extra observation" questions. I genuinely feel sorry for them right now.

you got the job because they saw you as the best person for the job. You didn't luck out, they want you. Take a deep breath and realise that any change is hard to handle at first, you will be fine, you will soon fit in and you will look back at this post and laugh at how strange it all feels soon ;)

I have just got back from my second "favourable" interview with the site manager, and I have been offered the job! :j I'm so pleased as the hours are perfect to fit in around my daughter, and the location is good too (and will be even better once I have passed my driving test!), so now I just have to wait for HR to sort out the details of my contract and will hopefully be starting early next week!

I'm still going to come onto this thread and check on how you all are doing, and I just wanted to say thank you all so much for all the support that you have offered.
    That's fantastic news, congratulations!
    Whatever
  • That's basically what I said - that I look in the mirror, keep make-up in my bag and make sure my skirt isn't too short!
It's odd that they thought they could get away with the question, it seems a bit cheeky to me. I suppose it's because it's reception work? I'm sure there must be a more tactful way of asking it though.
    Whatever
  • Exciting news from me!

I've got an interview next Tuesday! It's the job I applied for last week - part time public sector call centre. Not my dream job exactly, but I don't care, a job is a job (if I get it of course).

Well Done asparargus! I hope it goes really well for you!

I'm still waiting for HR to send me an official offer and a contract but they said that I should have it by today. I don't think that I will believe that I have the job until I have that contract in my hands!
