    oooooooooooooooh congratulations Drea and November...

i have just been for my first interview - which might have gone well. The three interviewers were all really lovely, but the tone might not have been serious enough... there are however three jobs, but 2 are secondments, and the other is part time.

hey ho we'll soon see... they have said they'll let me know by tomorrow evening...

It will be very odd when this finally comes to an end. I know this may come across wrong but I am scared about getting a full time job because it will mean I won't be able to do any exercise which is a shame as that is what allows me to eat good amounts of fruit and veg which is my enjoyment in life. Gawd I have problems lol!

I wasn't going to confess this as I also thought I was a bit odd but I've developed a serious addiction to wii fit! I do at least an hour every day which is probably more exercise than I've done in the rest of my life. I was at my mum's yesterday for the day and even got a bit panicy when wii fit time came and went!

Anyway good luck to everyone this week. I'm signing on today (joy of all joys) and I've got a stinking cold (who gets a cold in June?) so I'm going to share it around at the job centre. For some reason they've changed my time and I've got to wait for 2.30 instead of going in the morning. As I have to go into town I've got myself organised and go and buy my fruit and veg from the market instead of the supermarket - boy do you notice the difference in price!

    Hello,

Sorry, just had a read through the thread - Well done to November and to Drea on the jobs. I hope things all work out ;)

Things seem to be looking up for me too ;)

Ages ago I spoke to the uni about an internship scheme that the uni is running called Unite with Business which would involve the uni paying me to go an work for an organisation - its taken a month of chasing a absolute nightmare jobsworth at the uni to get her make the phone call to check eligibility of the organisation and send the paperwork through - she has finally "found the time" after I sent a complaint to her team leader and it seems its ON!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure I will be able to really accept it until I'm actually sat behind a desk but its looking good ;)

I was also on the local radio yesterday talking about the volunteer work I do and although I havent listened to it, apparently I sounded OK ;)) The presenter even plugged my jobsearching ;))

The next bit of good news is that my Grandma has decided to clear some accounts from the sale of a property abroad which matured nicely and has given all the grandchildren, including me a cheque for £2,000 - I'm shocked and my mind is still racing as to what I should do with it. I'm thinking driving lessons to begin with while I do this internship and then that I would really like to go abroad to work.

I've always wanted to travel but could never afford to go on the schemes with uni - so I am thinking that I could make the best of the rubbish job situation and go abroad maybe to teach english (I love reading, writing and linguistics type stuff) or maybe nannying or doing some form of aid work working with the underprivilaged somewhere like South Africa. I'm not sure and havent a clue where to get advice from as Im not looking for something hugely organised like Camp America - any advice would be much appreciated.

    Jen

after doing my TESOL a lot of places (for African placements) were charging £4,000 to volunteer for a year, and a lot of the places that weren't charging seemed dodgy after seeing what the others would do for you, and what they wouldn't...

that was worded badly - but some would be very careful to provide all the support and meds that you might need - where others let you fend for yourself, and there were a lot of horror stories... where ever you go - make sure you have really good travel insurance, even if the place you are supposed to be volunteering thinks they'll cover you for the sake of a few pounds it's better to be safe than sorry.'...

be wary of places asking only for female teachers especially if they want photos - had a friend who ended up in China/Japan i forget which, didn't teach the business men just looked at her. nothing more funny than that went on but it was apparently unnerving although the pay was good...

Daves ESL cafe was a good site if i remember (ESL - English as a Second Language).

i'm not sure how long you'll want to go for - but i think 2 or 3 months might be the minimum with all the training etc that they'll need to give you...

depending where you need to go i don't know if you'll have pay for your jabs - although if you're volunteering they may provide...

for nannying you might need qualifications (at least you do in the UK) however to be an au pair (please forgive the spelling) you probably wouldn't however you can get good families that let you have time off and bad ones that will expect a slave. obviously the money for an au pair would be shocking but you get room and board...

if you're planning to teach look into which qualification is the buzz topic this year, i did TESOL/TEFL however shortly after i finished CELTA became the new little black dress of qualifications, and with any of these you would only be able to teach at a private school if it is based in Europe as a state school would expect a PGCE.

Still waiting to hear from the job I had an interview for in Friday. I doubt that I got it so I wish that they would just confirm it so that I can concentrate on starting the search again. I'm feeling a bit despondent today as I don't have anything in the pipe line now, I have no interviews lined up and can't find anything new to apply for.

:D I have a second interview confirmed for later this week!
Did some volunteering this morning and meant to go swimming afterwards but I'm feeling tired, so came home instead.

Livermum, hope you have good news - I've got my fingers crossed for you. I guess the weather doesn't help - it's miserable here.

    Best wishes,

May have a step in the right direction.

There is a Primark opening locally and I applied to one of the cash office positions - certainly more my thing than the clothes side - and have been invited to an interview in a couple of weeks.

    Fingers crossed!!!

Feeling very down, I think it is the weather. Doing some research on the roles I will be going after with the view of getting a qualification and also to spurt textbook bull**** at some poor interviewer, if required

Did some maths on the opportunity to use my secondary skills and alas I don't think it will be viable.

Going to make myself a tea now to cheer myself up

Phone keeps ringing but it is always someone trying to flog me something. I think my tps exclusions must have expired

I've still had no word about the interview from last Tuesday, I wish they would just get on with it and out me out of my misery.

Have been having brunch and looking for shoes with my best friend all morning and and into this afternoon (shoes for her, it wasn't successful!).

So now to do the job site rounds. Feeling a bit miserable today too and it's not even raining here for once!
