I still can't quite believe it, I'm STILL trying not to get my hopes up waiting to be told that they don't want me after all. We shall see.
I'm the same, I'm waiting for a start date for my new job, and am just carrying on as though I am unemployed (which technically I still am as I am not working even though I have signed a contract with the agency)0 -
The sort of jobs I go for require preliminary phone interviews. They are common in my industry (IT). I like the fact that I can write down a crib sheet of what I want to say and what questions I need to ask, without the interviewer knowing
Really suprised though that employers haven't woke up to the jobs of Skype (thankfully!),
That would scare me - I'd have to sit with my back to a blank wall so they can't find anything in my room to judge me on. At the moment my computer faces my messy bed!0 -
Well my interview itself went quick and he admitted that I had more local knowledge then all of the other applicants put together...... but I feel like I made a boob by not wearing a suit:(,all the others had one on,I had my suit pants and a nice shirt and tie as the weather is so gorgeous today.
All the others looked hot and bothered though but smarter,ah well at least it's something to put down on the Jobcentre looking for work forms."Life is short even in its longest days".0 -
My interview today went well, I think, but it felt a bit short (just over 30 minutes but only one person interviewing me).
Hopefully should know by Monday whether I get through to the next stage. Fingers crossed.
Feeling optimistic because it is so sunny outside
Takeittothelimit - wearing a tie probably made you look smarter, and maybe calmer without the heavy jacket and added sweat?
Hope everyone has a good weekend!0 -

Don't think they'd judge you on that - they'd be a bit dim if they did. Probably give you a bit of credit for using common-sense!0 -

My husband has had a couple of Skype interviews, one was with an agency recruiter, so they may become more common.

Telephone interview over with, now I can relax for the weekend.
I think it went ok. She asked me questions such as 'What do you know about (company name)?' and 'What do you think the role entails?' - the first question I tried not to just recite what's on their website, but it was a bit tricky as I only had this afternoon to research and I'd never heard of them before I applied! Second question, I had the job description in front of me and just tried to summarise the main responsibilities - bit of a strange question really as the job description supplied was quite detailed.
I struggled when she asked me if I had any questions. I always always struggle with this question - must be better prepared in the future! I just find that if I'm going for a job where I already know I'm going to take it if offered then asking questions seems pointless as this stage - I can find out more about the company after I've been offered the job!
Also, if the job I'm interviewing for is really just a stopgap in my mind, then I feel insincere asking about career progression, even though I know it looks good to ask about this!0 -

I normally fall back on a couple of general questions such as:
When will I find out if I was successful / How will I find out?
What Challenges do you see in your industry?
Career Progression/ Overtime prospects if it is a part time job0 -

i had earlier on this year for a job at the new bestbuy store in bristol, premises werent ready yet to hold interviews(was an old halfords store i think) but they could have rented a space out to do face to face0 -
Hello,
Sorry, just had a read through the thread - Well done to November and to Drea on the jobs. I hope things all work out
Things seem to be looking up for me too
Ages ago I spoke to the uni about an internship scheme that the uni is running called Unite with Business which would involve the uni paying me to go an work for an organisation - its taken a month of chasing a absolute nightmare jobsworth at the uni to get her make the phone call to check eligibility of the organisation and send the paperwork through - she has finally "found the time" after I sent a complaint to her team leader and it seems its ON!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure I will be able to really accept it until I'm actually sat behind a desk but its looking good
I was also on the local radio yesterday talking about the volunteer work I do and although I havent listened to it, apparently I sounded OK) The presenter even plugged my jobsearching
)
The next bit of good news is that my Grandma has decided to clear some accounts from the sale of a property abroad which matured nicely and has given all the grandchildren, including me a cheque for £2,000 - I'm shocked and my mind is still racing as to what I should do with it. I'm thinking driving lessons to begin with while I do this internship and then that I would really like to go abroad to work.
I've always wanted to travel but could never afford to go on the schemes with uni - so I am thinking that I could make the best of the rubbish job situation and go abroad maybe to teach english (I love reading, writing and linguistics type stuff) or maybe nannying or doing some form of aid work working with the underprivilaged somewhere like South Africa. I'm not sure and havent a clue where to get advice from as Im not looking for something hugely organised like Camp America - any advice would be much appreciated.
