Drea,
Belated congratulations from me on the job (sorry I haven't been here for a couple of days, been really busy). I'm really pleased for you, I hope everybody can follow on from this with their own good news.
Have a good weekend everybody.0 -
Well, no news today about the job I interviewed for on Tuesday, so much for knowing by the end of the week.
I have had a little pick me up though, got my hair done today. I'm very lucky to have an acquaintance who happily cuts my hair for free (because I let him experiment, in a good way!), if he's quiet in the salon he just sends me a text asking if I'm free and he's ridiculously talented, it would cost me about £40 if I paid! And he even put a wee bit of tint on after begging his manager (supposed to charge for it). So that cheered me right up, I love going in to see him.
Ah well, into another jobless weekend I go!0 -
top_drawer wrote: »Hello,
Sorry, just had a read through the thread - Well done to November and to Drea on the jobs. I hope things all work out
Things seem to be looking up for me too
Ages ago I spoke to the uni about an internship scheme that the uni is running called Unite with Business which would involve the uni paying me to go an work for an organisation - its taken a month of chasing a absolute nightmare jobsworth at the uni to get her make the phone call to check eligibility of the organisation and send the paperwork through - she has finally "found the time" after I sent a complaint to her team leader and it seems its ON!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure I will be able to really accept it until I'm actually sat behind a desk but its looking good
I was also on the local radio yesterday talking about the volunteer work I do and although I havent listened to it, apparently I sounded OK) The presenter even plugged my jobsearching
)
The next bit of good news is that my Grandma has decided to clear some accounts from the sale of a property abroad which matured nicely and has given all the grandchildren, including me a cheque for £2,000 - I'm shocked and my mind is still racing as to what I should do with it. I'm thinking driving lessons to begin with while I do this internship and then that I would really like to go abroad to work.
I've always wanted to travel but could never afford to go on the schemes with uni - so I am thinking that I could make the best of the rubbish job situation and go abroad maybe to teach english (I love reading, writing and linguistics type stuff) or maybe nannying or doing some form of aid work working with the underprivilaged somewhere like South Africa. I'm not sure and havent a clue where to get advice from as Im not looking for something hugely organised like Camp America - any advice would be much appreciated.

Congratulations Drea, so, so pleased for you.I really hope it is the start of a great new career for you.
I'm off to an agency tomorrow who has put me forward for some jobs but if I'm being completely honest I'm not very hopeful as I don't match the criteria very well (no matter how I stretch my experience). It's great to be put forward however and the agency staff seemed really nice, not at all like some I have spoken to who treat job seekers as commodities rather than people.
Husband & I having some serious conversations this weekend about how we go forward as if I can't find a job in a few months we will have to sell the house and move to a cheaper area (if one exists in the SE!). We bought at the top of the market so it's not idea to sell at this time but I would rather we do that then have a forced sell in a year's time.
Hope everyone has a good job hunting week0 -

Have a good weekend everybody.
Thank you
I got my job offer email on Friday and they said they had sent it in the post too so will hopefully get that tomorrow. It'll feel a bit more real then!Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.0 -
I HAVE A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I start a week on Monday and they don't care about my holiday so I can have the time off. NMW for a lot of work but who cares? It's a job!
Congratulations Drea! That's great news!
Now, if I could just get an interview for something, anything at all, I'm past caring :rotfl:There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -
Hope everyone had a decent weekend - I at least managed to grab a lift to Birmingham on Saturday (Dad was going to a railway event in the area) so went to the tennis at Edgbaston Priory and then into the Bullring market in the afternoon. Yesterday was mainly spent watching Nadal v Federer.
Anyway onto a new week - lets hope more of us get some good, or in my case any, news.
It will be very odd when this finally comes to an end. I know this may come across wrong but I am scared about getting a full time job because it will mean I won't be able to do any exercise which is a shame as that is what allows me to eat good amounts of fruit and veg which is my enjoyment in life. Gawd I have problems lol!0 -

Hahaha, no you don't have problems! I'm sure we have all found at least one small, positive thing out of this whole experience which we'll miss when working again. I'll miss all the time I've been spending in the garden, and that fills me with dread!
Now, if hubby could get an extremely well paid job........... :rotfl:There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -
just wanted to add my support to this thread.
i am currently working, but we are never sure what will happen next and when in our line of work.....
i posted a little while ago and just wanted to repeat the fact that with so many applicants for jobs, our and other companies are having to apply random criteria and pick, for example, every third application to review (so sometimes it is not even about the applicant in the first instance), as it is impossible to look at every one.
if possible, it may help to always apply asap as a company may just take the first 'so many applicants......'
good luck to all x0 -
Good luck with your first day Drea and I hope that everyone else has a successful week's jobhunting.Whatever0
