Yeah I don't want to injure myself. I will reply and send stuff that I am looking for admin work etc. and see what they come back with.0

If it's an email cover letter, I'd put Andrew, if it's a letter to be posted I think I'd decide based on his job title if known and what the company does - if he's in HR and I was writing a letter, I'd have his full name at the top of the letter and then put 'Dear Andrew'.
I think these days people use first names a lot, even when you don't know the recipient. Maybe try writing both and see which you are most comfortable with?
Do the ads usually put the first name or surname?
Anyone disagree?
I always, always start cover letters with 'Dear Sir' even on emails - it's how I was taught to do it. Am I doing this wrong?
I really wouldn't dream of using someone's first name! There is nothing better in life than writing on the sole of your slipper with a biro.....0 -
Just got back from the Job Centre. I asked my advisor about the weekly signings I have to attend (only been signing on for a month) and she said its because of a recent restructure. It started 3 weeks ago and instead of stages 1, 2 and 3, they are doing it by age group (I'm in 18-24). She also said they are one of the first Job Centres to be doing this. One thing that worried me is that she said if I don't find employment by the end of june then I will have to go on a work programme which is a 2-year contract. I won't be signing on at the JC anymore but at this work programme instead. She told me to find a job asap! I've been applying for jobs which I'm more than capable of doing but never receive anything back. Its disheartening.
Anyway I recieved a call from an agency yesterday regarding a job and they want me to register with them tomorrow. I hope something will come out of it. I'm getting desperate now because the work programme doesn't sound good0 -
Applied last month for an agency which required 85 - yes 85!! - call center staff.. didn't hear a thing! And I have previous contact center/customer service experience, was hoping for at least an interview!
Signed up for two different agencies yesterday although did pretty miserably on the computer tests - low as 40% for one, which is pretty shocking - didn't help that the test package seemed to be Microsoft Office 1995 or pretty ancient anyhows! Do you think i'll hear anything back with such bad test results or do they consider your past experience, CV..?
Aghh job hunting.. to think I actually used to enjoy this!!0 -

Am looking for full-time at the moment, as much as I want to get into journalism the bills need to be paid and money is nice. I'm being very realistic about my options and I have over two years of retail experience. I applied for a sales consultant position at a very expensive designer label. Walked in, handed over my cv and cover letter to the manager and thought nothing of it. Get a phonecall the next morning, asking to come for an interview on the Friday (three days to prepare).
I don't own anything for interview wear that really stands out so I ummed and ahhed and eventually found a friend who could lend me a stunning black dress, very 1940s and classic. Revised and prepared as much as I could. The Friday morning, I walk into the store to see everyone on edge. Not "we are at work and it's delivery day", but I REALLY mean on edge. I inadvertantly ended up chatting to the girl who was leaving who didn't even want to be there...not a good sign.
Get called into a large bustling cafe opposite the shop for the interview to find not only the store manager, but the area manager AND director of the company  What proceeded was the worst interview I have ever had. All three were completely dismissive of everything I had to say and my CV. I got told my degree was a waste of four years, and that I "had no idea how the real world works". I was constantly interrupted and spoken over, laughed at when I mentioned that I was a full-time carer of my autistic siblings back home (and juggled sixth form, two part time jobs and other things). They even made out that all I did was sit at home while my parents were at the pub! Overall a massive waste of time as I had asked for the day off at work to attend this!
Side note, have finally saved up enough money to replace my broken laptop! No more having to rush down the library and attempt to work under time limits of an hour
That is terrible, please let us know the name of the offending shop if it is a national chain so I can make sure that I boycott it. In the real world your achievements stand out, your degree was not a waste of time and people being interviewed should be shown respect. I think you had a good escape from what would turn out to be a horrible job0 -
Exactly what Morizot said, Ladystardust. Sorry you had such an awful interview but you must look on it as a lucky escape, working in that environment every day would have made you ill sooner or later. I hope the right job for you is there and will come soon.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0

I was told about possibly doing a Work Programme but if it comes to that I will do temp work instead and stop with the JSA. I have heard nothing but bad stuff about them so going to try avoid it.0

Factory picking is exactly what i'm doing at the moment, it's not what I ever thought i'd end up doing but it is work and it is at least bringing money in.
Feet wise, i'll be honest that by the end of the shift my feet are killing me. If you suffer with bad feet then you'll be in a lot of pain i'm sure.0 -
Hi All
Ive been looking for a full time job as part time and contract working at the moment. Hubby is SE and work is a lot slower thian it was, so he has agreed that he will look after kids after school if I get a FT job.
I have been really luckly and got an interview for a job that I would be really good at - FT and salary up to £23k, so more than double that I am on now. I have to do a presentation at the interview, and unisghted task (???) and then MAY be called back for an interview later in the day... Not even sure what all of that means in terms of what they are looking for!!
Gonna put my heart & Soul into getting this job and have already talked to a couple of people who work in a similar role and they have been really helpful. Have 2-3 more people who I can get to help and input suggestions intpo my presentation so I know I eally have done the best I can. it's heartbreaking to see how hard hubby and me are both working, to just about cover bills and debts and family commitments - so I really NEED and WANT to get this job!
Please send me good vibes, inteview is in 2 weeks time.
I really wish every one good luck in their job hunting - things sometimes just come together, when you least expect it, so please keep applying and trying....0 -
She told me to find a job asap!
What a useless piece of advice!
I feel as completely hopeless as ever - applied for about 6/7 jobs in the past week and have heard nothing back from any of them. The problem with an abyss is that it never fills up!
I just wish I knew what was wrong with me? why doesn't anybody want anything to do with me and why am I such a complete failure?
We also have to put up with the long bank holiday weekend now - Ugh!0
